Pefkoulia is the west coast beach you go to when you want the scenery of Lefkada without the scramble. It is one of the longest beaches on the island, a broad pale sweep of sand and fine gravel below green hills, with that bright turquoise water the west coast is famous for and a single relaxed beach bar handling the sunbeds. Where Porto Katsiki and Egremni demand staircases and timing, Pefkoulia is simply there, easy to reach, easy to park, and big enough that even in season you can carry your towel along the sand and find a quiet stretch to call your own.
For couples, that space is the romance. The bay faces the open west, so the afternoon turns slow and golden and the sun drops straight into the sea, and because the beach is so long you can walk away from the bar and have the light almost to yourselves. There is a viewpoint on the road above from Tsoukalades that frames the whole curve and the village of Agios Nikitas beyond, a lovely pause on the drive in or out. This is a beach for a long, unhurried afternoon rather than a quick photo and a dash to the next cove.
The honest catch is the same one the whole west coast carries. This is exposed water, so the calm glassy morning can give way to a breeze and a little chop after lunch, and the mix of sand and gravel is kinder with reef shoes than bare feet. If your heart is set on total seclusion, the boat in cove at Agiofili or the small cove at Kalamitsi will feel more secret, and for the grand cliff theatre you still want Porto Katsiki first thing. But for an easy, spacious, genuinely uncrowded west coast day that ends in a quiet sunset, Pefkoulia is one of the smartest choices on Lefkada.

Just north of Agios Nikitas
Pefkoulia sits on the west coast about ten kilometres from Lefkada town, a couple of minutes drive north of the village of Agios Nikitas on the road toward Tsoukalades. The asphalt is good with a few curves near the end, and a car or scooter is by far the easiest way in, as bus links to this stretch are sparse.
There is free parking close to the sand and a smaller lot by the beach bar, so arriving is easier here than at the paid clifftop beaches further south. Bring water, sun cover and reef shoes for the gravel, and stop at the viewpoint on the road above for the wide framed view of the bay before you drop down to the beach.
