The verdict

Best for. Travellers who came for the beach clubs, the pools and the party, with a surf break thrown in for the mornings.

Best spot. Finns or Atlas for the full beach club day, with the wide black sand in front for a walk between sessions.

Know this. Berawa is about the clubs behind the sand more than the sea, which is working surf rather than calm swimming.

The honest read

Berawa is the stretch of the Canggu coast that the beach clubs built. At the southern end of the area, its wide apron of black volcanic sand backs onto some of the largest and best known clubs on the island, and the result is a beach defined less by the sea than by the scene above it. By day it is pools, daybeds and music, and by night it can feel closer to a festival than a fishing village. For a certain kind of Bali trip, this is exactly the point.

The honest read is that you come to Berawa for the clubs first and the beach second. The sand is broad and good for a walk, and there is a surf break for the mornings, but the water is working ocean with currents, not a calm swimming bay. If your idea of a beach day is a quiet swim and an empty horizon, this is not it. If it is a lounger by a big pool, a long lunch and a DJ into the evening, few places anywhere do it on this scale.

Used for what it is, Berawa is one of the most reliable good times in Bali. Finns is among the largest beach clubs on the island, Atlas brings a slick, high energy setting, and La Laguna offers a more whimsical, lantern lit mood nearby. Pick the club that matches your day, book ahead in high season, and treat the sea as a backdrop rather than the main event. On those terms it delivers, again and again.

Getting there and essentials

Southern Canggu coast, Bali

Berawa sits at the southern end of the Canggu coast, roughly forty five minutes to an hour from Ngurah Rai International Airport depending on the heavy local traffic. The main beach access runs past the big clubs to a parking area set back from the sand.

There is no public transport, so a hired scooter is the easiest way around the congested lanes, with taxis and ride hailing apps the alternative. Club parking and the surrounding streets fill quickly before sunset, so plan to arrive early or travel on two wheels.

Common questions about Berawa Beach

Is Berawa Beach good for swimming?

Not really. Berawa is a black sand surf coast with currents, so the sea is best treated as unsupervised rather than a calm swimming bay. The draw here is the beach clubs and their pools. For proper swimming, the reef sheltered east coast at Sanur or Nusa Dua is the better choice.

Which beach club is best at Berawa?

It depends on your day. Finns is among the largest on the island with a full party scene, Atlas is vast and high energy, and La Laguna is more whimsical and lantern lit. Each takes bookings, and entry and minimum spends are to be confirmed.

Is Berawa good for families?

It can work by day if you treat it as a pool and club day rather than a swimming one, though the larger clubs lean towards a party crowd by evening. Families after a calm swim and quieter sand are better served on the east coast at Sanur or Nusa Dua.

Do you have to pay to get on Berawa Beach?

No. The sand itself is public and free to walk and sit on. What you pay for is the beach clubs behind it, which charge an entry fee, a minimum spend or both, and those vary by club and by day and are to be confirmed.

When is the best time to visit Berawa?

The dry season from April to October brings the cleanest surf, the most reliable sunsets and the busiest club calendar. Within the day, late afternoon into sunset is the social peak. Book a daybed ahead in high season to be sure of a spot.
