Agiofili is the kind of cove couples daydream about. It is small, a single curve of white pebble tucked under green hills just around the headland from Vasiliki, and the water in front of it glows an unreal turquoise that you usually have to fly much further to find. The half of the romance is the beach itself, and the other half is getting there, because most people arrive on a little wooden boat that shuttles back and forth from Vasiliki harbour, a five minute crossing that feels like a small adventure and sets the mood before your feet touch the pebbles.
The honest truth about a place this lovely and this small is that the secret is out. By the middle of a summer day the boats have ferried over enough people to fill the modest cove, the few sunbeds go early, and the intimacy you came for can thin in the crowd. The canteen is sweet but limited, so this is not a beach for a long serviced lunch. None of that spoils it, but it does mean timing matters more here than almost anywhere on the island. Agiofili at nine in the morning and Agiofili at one in the afternoon are two different experiences.
So take the first boat over, or the last one back, when the cove empties out and the water turns glassy and clear. Bring a snorkel for the rocks at either end, where the fish gather and the visibility is superb, and a picnic so you are not relying on the canteen. Settle in, swim in that impossible blue, and you have one of the most romantic small beaches in the Ionian. Come at peak midday expecting solitude and you will be sharing it, in which case the quieter Milos up the coast is the better bet.

Agiofili sits just south of Vasiliki on the southern coast of Lefkada, about two kilometres from the village around the headland. The easiest and most enjoyable way to arrive is the small boat shuttle that runs from Vasiliki harbour through the day, a crossing of only a few minutes that lands you right on the pebbles and saves the rough overland route.
The alternative is a bumpy unpaved track and a short walk down, which is doable with care but far less charming than the boat. Either way, bring water, sun cover and a picnic, as the canteen is small, and aim for an early or late crossing to enjoy the cove before or after the midday rush from the boats.
