Taling Ngam Beach
Best for. Couples and quiet seekers who want a secluded, scenic bay with calm water, big west facing views and an upscale resort setting away from the crowds.
Best spot. The clifftop sunset bar above the bay for the view over the Five Islands, then the calm sand below for a swim when the tide is in.
Know this. Taling Ngam is remote and dominated by resorts on a hillside, so it is short on public facilities and best suited to people staying nearby or coming for the sunset view.
Taling Ngam is the quiet southwest corner where Koh Samui turns scenic and remote. The bay is backed by steep green hills, the road peters out, and the dominant feature is the view, a wide west facing panorama across the water to the cluster known as the Five Islands and, on a clear evening, the Ang Thong marine park beyond. It is one of the prettier outlooks on Samui and the reason the island's most design conscious resorts chose this hillside.
The beach itself is calm and fairly narrow, soft underfoot and genuinely secluded, with little of the bustle you find on the east coast. The water is sheltered and gentle for a swim when the tide is up, though it shallows at low tide as it does along this coast, so timing helps. What you will not find is a developed beachfront, since the bay is given over to resorts on the slope rather than public bars and lounger hire, and that is the trade for the seclusion and the view.
The signature experience here is the sunset from above. The clifftop Air Bar at the InterContinental Koh Samui is widely rated one of the best sundowner spots on the island, perched over the bay with the Five Islands laid out below, and the nearby Conrad occupies a similar cliff position. Come to Taling Ngam to stay quietly, to swim gently and to watch the sun drop from the cliff. The Koh Samui beach clubs guide has the venues and booking through our form.
Clubs on this beach
Taling Ngam's scene is resort led and built around the view, with a famous clifftop sunset bar rather than a beach club strip. The full picture sits in our Koh Samui beach clubs guide.

The clifftop Air Bar at the InterContinental Koh Samui is one of the island's most celebrated sundowner spots, set on the hillside above Taling Ngam with infinity views over the Five Islands. It runs as a hotel bar with sunset as the draw, and access for non guests, timing and any policy are to be confirmed with the resort.
Hillside resort fronts
Beyond the famous sunset bar, Taling Ngam is given over to hillside resorts with their own pools and beach fronts rather than open beach clubs. For the island's club picture and to book through our form, see the Koh Samui beach clubs guide.
Southwest coast, Koh Samui
Taling Ngam sits on the southwest coast of Koh Samui, roughly forty to fifty minutes by road from Samui Airport, beyond Nathon toward the quiet end of the island.
Most visitors arrive by taxi, a private transfer or as guests of the hillside resorts. The road is winding and the bay feels remote, so plan transport rather than relying on passing services.
Combine Taling Ngam with the calm sunsets of Lipa Noi just north for a full west coast evening, or pair it with Nathon for the ferry and town.

Common questions about Taling Ngam Beach
What is Taling Ngam known for?
Seclusion and the view. The southwest bay is backed by green hills and looks west across the water to the cluster known as the Five Islands, one of the prettier outlooks on Samui. It is also home to the island's most celebrated clifftop sunset bar and a couple of high end resorts.
Where is the best sunset bar at Taling Ngam?
The clifftop Air Bar at the InterContinental Koh Samui is widely rated one of the best sundowner spots on the island, perched above the bay with infinity views over the Five Islands. Access for non guests and timing are to be confirmed with the resort, and the Koh Samui beach clubs guide has more.
Can you swim at Taling Ngam Beach?
Usually yes, gently. The water is sheltered and calm on this southwest stretch and fine for a swim when the tide is in, though it shallows at low tide. There is no assured lifeguard, so judge the water and the tide yourself.
Is Taling Ngam worth visiting?
If you want quiet, scenery and a great sunset, yes. It is remote and resort led with limited public facilities, so it suits people staying nearby or coming for the clifftop view rather than those wanting a busy, equipped beach day. For that, Chaweng or Lamai fit better.
When is the best time to visit Taling Ngam?
December to April is the driest and calmest stretch, with the most reliable sun and the clearest sunset views. Koh Samui sits on a different weather pattern from the Andaman coast, and its wettest period tends to fall around October and November.
