Chaweng Noi Beach
Best for. Couples and families who want Chaweng quality sand and easy swimming without the strip, in a calmer, more resort led setting over the headland.
Best spot. The central curve of the bay in front of the resorts, where the sand is softest and the water sits calm and clear in the dry season.
Know this. Chaweng Noi is much quieter than Chaweng and largely fronted by resorts, so the shade and service near the water are mostly resort led rather than a public club strip.
Chaweng Noi is the quieter bay just south of Chaweng, over a green headland, and the short distance buys a big change in mood. Where Chaweng is long, busy and backed by the island's nightlife strip, Chaweng Noi is a smaller, smarter curve of soft white sand largely fronted by resorts, with no real strip behind it. The name means little Chaweng, and that is a fair description, the same lovely sand on a calmer, more contained bay.
It swims well. In the dry season the water here is usually gentle and clear, often a touch calmer than the bigger beach next door, which makes it a relaxed choice for couples and families who want quality sand without the crowds and the jet ski churn. The setting is green and pretty, framed by headlands at each end, and the overall feel is more resort holiday than backpacker scene. If your priority is an easy, good looking swim and a quiet sunbathe, Chaweng Noi delivers.
The honest framing is about the resort frontage. Because hotels line most of the bay, the loungers, shade and service near the water are largely resort managed, with charges or a minimum spend that are best confirmed on the day, and the public access points are fewer than on Chaweng. The sand itself is public, as all Thai beaches are, so you can walk and swim freely, but the day works best either as a resort guest or by using a beachfront restaurant. For the full beach club and nightlife scene, Chaweng is a short ride or walk over the headland, and our Koh Samui clubs guide maps it.
Clubs on this beach
Chaweng Noi is a calm, resort fronted bay rather than a club strip, so the service is led by the hotels along the sand. For the full beach club and party scene you look to Chaweng over the headland, mapped in our Koh Samui clubs guide.

Resorts line most of the bay and run their own beach service, so the loungers, shade and beachfront restaurants near the water are largely theirs. Non guests can sometimes use food and drink outlets, but lounger access and any minimum are set by each resort and are to be confirmed.
Beachfront restaurants
A handful of beachfront restaurants attached to the resorts offer the easiest non guest way onto the sand, for lunch, a drink and sunset. Menus, hours and any minimum are set by each venue and are to be confirmed on the day.
Clubs over at Chaweng
Chaweng Noi itself stays a quiet resort bay with no club strip. For the full daybed, pool party and nightlife scene you cross the headland to Chaweng, a short ride or walk away, described in the Koh Samui beach clubs guide with booking through our form.
East coast, Koh Samui
Chaweng Noi sits on the east coast just south of Chaweng, over a green headland, roughly fifteen to twenty minutes by road from Samui Airport depending on traffic.
Most visitors arrive by taxi, a private transfer or scooter, and many are staying at one of the resorts that line the bay. Public access points are fewer than on Chaweng, so confirm the way down if you are not a resort guest.
Combine Chaweng Noi with lively Chaweng just over the headland to the north, or the rocky snorkel of Coral Cove a little further south, for a fuller day on this coast.

Common questions about Chaweng Noi Beach
What is the difference between Chaweng and Chaweng Noi?
Chaweng is the long, busy main beach backed by the island's nightlife strip, with the densest beach club scene. Chaweng Noi, just south over a headland, is a smaller, calmer, resort fronted bay with the same quality sand but no strip and gentler water. Many people choose Chaweng Noi for calm and visit Chaweng for the scene.
Can you swim at Chaweng Noi?
Yes. In the dry season the bay is usually a gentle, clear swim, often a touch calmer than Chaweng next door, which suits couples and families. As elsewhere on the coast, patrols are limited and the monsoon brings choppier water, so judge conditions yourself and keep an eye on children.
Is Chaweng Noi a public beach?
The sand is public and free, as all beaches in Thailand are, so you can walk and swim freely. The catch is that resorts line most of the bay, so loungers, shade and service near the water are largely resort managed, public access points are fewer, and the easiest non guest route onto the sand is via a beachfront restaurant.
Are there beach clubs at Chaweng Noi?
Not really. The bay is calm and resort led rather than a club strip. For the full beach club, pool party and nightlife scene you cross the headland to Chaweng, a short ride or walk to the north, which is mapped in the Koh Samui beach clubs guide with booking through our enquiry form.
When is the best time to visit Chaweng Noi?
December to April is the driest and calmest stretch on Koh Samui, with the most reliable sun and the best swimming. The island's wettest period tends to fall around October and November, on a different pattern from the Andaman coast, so plan around that if you can.
