Pattaya Beach is the front door to Koh Lipe and the first sand most visitors ever see, as the boats from the mainland and the neighbouring islands pull straight up onto it. It is easy to see why the island became famous, because the sand is genuinely powder soft and white and the water glows in the clear turquoise that put this tiny speck in the Tarutao marine park on the map. Behind the beach, Walking Street packs in restaurants, bars and dive shops, so everything you need is a barefoot minute away.
The honest read is that Pattaya Beach is beautiful and busy in equal measure. Because it is the arrival beach, the central stretch is a working boat mooring, with longtails and speedboats coming and going all day, and the swimming there is compromised by the traffic and the crowds. The scene turns lively in the evening as the bars fill and fire shows start, which is fun if that is what you want and a shock if you came expecting a serene deserted island. The good news is that the beach is small and the island smaller, so a better swim is never far.
Play it right and you get the best of both. Take your swim at the quieter western end away from the moorings, or walk a few minutes across the island to Sunrise Beach for calmer, cleaner water and far fewer boats, then come back to Pattaya Beach for sunset drinks and the buzz of Walking Street. Treated as the social heart of Koh Lipe rather than a private paradise, Pattaya Beach is a genuine pleasure, and the quieter beaches a short stroll away are there whenever you want the stillness.

The honest answer is that Koh Lipe is a small, laid back island, and Pattaya Beach is lined with resort beach bars and restaurants rather than a strip of formal beach clubs with day beds and minimum spends. A table on the sand, a cold drink at sunset and a fire show later is the local version of the club layer, and it suits the barefoot island mood.

By Walking Street
Pattaya Beach lies on the south side of Koh Lipe, right behind Walking Street, and it is where the speedboats and ferries from Pak Bara on the mainland and from Langkawi and nearby islands arrive, usually via a floating pier and a longtail shuttle onto the sand. The island has no cars to speak of, so once you land everything is reached on foot or by the local motorbike taxis in a few minutes.
Koh Lipe sits within the Tarutao marine park, so a national park entry fee is collected on arrival and is to be confirmed. Bring reef safe sunscreen to protect the coral, cash as some places do not take cards, and take care around the boat moorings when swimming. For calmer, cleaner water walk across to Sunrise Beach or round to the quieter Sanom and Karma beaches, all only a short stroll away.
