Koh Lipe is small, and in high season it can feel smaller still, with Pattaya Beach lined end to end with bars, longtails and sunbeds and Walking Street humming behind it. Sanom is the island's quiet answer. Walk to the far northwest corner of Pattaya, pick your way around the rocky headland or take the little path behind it, and in a few minutes the noise drops away to a soft crescent of pale sand with a single low resort tucked into the trees. Around the headland
Sanom Beach sits at the northwest tip of Koh Lipe, reached on foot around the rocky headland at the far end of Pattaya Beach or along the short path behind it, roughly a fifteen minute walk from the Walking Street area. A longtail boat can also drop you straight onto the cove. Koh Lipe itself is reached by speedboat or ferry from Pak Bara pier on the mainland, or from Langkawi, mainly through the dry season when the island is fully open.
Come a little self sufficient, since the one resort restaurant is the only service on the sand: carry water, sun cream and anything you want for a longer stay, and take your rubbish away. The snorkelling is best off the beach at higher tide, so mind the shallow coral on a low tide and keep clear of it. There is no lifeguard, so read the sea and watch children, and time a longer visit for the softer light of the morning or late afternoon.
