Suluban Beach
Best for. Surfers heading out at Uluwatu and travellers who love dramatic caves and a cliff bar sunset.
Best spot. The cliff terraces above the caves at sunset, with Single Fin nearby for the famous view over the break.
Know this. Suluban is tidal and rocky, a surf access cove rather than a swimming beach, with little sand at high water.
Suluban, often called Blue Point, is less a beach than a piece of theatre. It sits directly below the Uluwatu cliffs, and you reach it by threading down staircases and through a slot of caves and rock that opens onto the sea. At the bottom the surf rolls in over the reef, surfers wade out through the channels, and the whole place hums with the energy of one of the most famous waves in Bali. It is unforgettable to see and a little hostile to lie on.
The honest read is that this is a surf cove, not a swimming beach. There is very little flat sand, the bottom is rock and reef, and the tide changes the place completely. At low tide you can explore the caves and pools, while at high tide the sea fills the cove and there is almost nowhere to sit. Anyone expecting a soft stretch to sunbathe will be happier at a wider Bukit beach such as Melasti or Dreamland, and you can read those guides before you go.
What makes Suluban worth the trip is the cliff above. This stretch of Uluwatu carries the best sunset bars on the Bukit, where you can sit with a drink and watch the surfers far below trade waves as the sky turns. Come in the late afternoon, take the stairs down to feel the drama of the caves, then climb back up to a cliff perch for the sunset. Treated as a surf and sunset spectacle rather than a beach day, it is one of the most memorable corners of the island.
Clubs on this beach
Suluban itself is a natural surf cove with no clubs on the sand, but the Uluwatu cliffs directly above carry some of the most famous sunset bars on the Bukit. These are cliff venues rather than beach clubs, and hours are set by each and best confirmed before you go.

The best known cliff bar on the Bukit, perched above the Uluwatu break with a front row view of the surfers and the sunset. It is famous for its Sunday sessions and its terrace rather than for daybeds on the sand. Hours and event nights are to be confirmed.
Cliff warungs and surf cafes
Stacked along the cliff above the caves are warungs, surf shops and casual cafes serving cold drinks and simple food with the sea below. They are the everyday side of the Suluban scene, relaxed and low cost, with no club minimum.
No club on the sand
The cove below stays a natural surf gateway with no beach club, daybeds or pools, which is part of its raw appeal. For a full beach club day you would head to Melasti nearby or up to Seminyak, both easy to plan from the clubs guide.
Bukit Peninsula, Bali
Suluban sits at the southwestern tip of the Bukit Peninsula by Uluwatu, around an hour by car from Seminyak and Kuta and a similar run from Ngurah Rai International Airport when traffic allows. As with the rest of the Bukit there is no public transport, so a taxi, a ride hailing app or a hired scooter is how most people arrive.
Parking sits at the top near the cliff bars, and from there a series of staircases descends through the caves to the cove. The route is dramatic and uneven, with steps and rock to negotiate, so it suits the reasonably mobile and is best taken in shoes with grip rather than flip flops.

Common questions about Suluban Beach
Is Suluban Beach good for swimming?
No, Suluban is a surf access cove rather than a swimming beach. The bottom is rock and reef, there is little flat sand, and the water is busy with surfers heading out to the Uluwatu break. For a swim, a wider Bukit beach such as Melasti or Dreamland is a far better choice.
How do you get down to Suluban Beach?
You descend from the cliff top through a series of staircases and a slot of caves that open onto the cove. It is one of the most dramatic beach approaches in Bali, but the steps and rock are uneven, so wear shoes with grip and take care, especially on wet surfaces.
What is the best time to visit Suluban Beach?
Late afternoon into sunset is the highlight, when the light is soft, the surfers are out, and the cliff bars above fill up. Check the tide as well, since low water opens the caves and pools while high water fills the cove and leaves almost nowhere to stand.
Is Single Fin at Suluban Beach?
Single Fin sits on the Uluwatu cliff directly above the Suluban caves, not on the sand itself. It is the most famous sunset bar on the Bukit, known for its view over the break and its weekend sessions, with hours and event nights best confirmed before you go.
Is Suluban suitable for beginner surfers?
No. The Uluwatu break that Suluban serves is a powerful reef wave for experienced surfers, and the rocky entry adds risk. Beginners should learn on a sand bottomed beach break such as Kuta and treat Uluwatu as a wave to admire from the cliff.
