Melasti Beach
Best for. Visitors who want the Bukit drama without a clifftop scramble, plus a daybed and a swim at the right tide.
Best spot. The clubs at the southern end of the sand, where the loungers face the turquoise water below the carved cliffs.
Know this. Melasti is calmer and more swimmable than the Bukit surf beaches, but it is still open ocean and tide dependent.
Melasti solves the Bukit problem. The peninsula is full of beautiful beaches that punish you with steep cliff staircases, but Melasti is the one you can simply drive down to. A road carved into the white limestone winds from the clifftop right to the sand, past walls of pale rock that have become one of the most photographed sights in south Bali. For anyone who wants the drama of the Bukit without the climb, this is the answer.
The water is the other pleasant surprise. Where neighbours like Dreamland and Suluban are ruled by heavy surf, Melasti faces a calmer, clearer stretch of sea that turns a real turquoise on a bright day and can be genuinely swimmable when the tide is kind. It is still open ocean, so currents and conditions deserve respect and there is no guarantee of a lifeguard, but it is the closest the Bukit comes to a relaxed swimming and sunbathing beach with looks to match.
Melasti has also grown a proper beach club scene at one end of the sand, which sets it apart from the warung coves nearby. You can spend a full day here with a daybed, a pool and a sunset drink, or keep it simple on the open sand with the cliffs as a backdrop. Come on a dry season day, arrive before the midday coaches, and you get the rare Bukit combination of easy access, swimmable water and a club to settle into.

Ungasan, Bali
Melasti lies near Ungasan on the southern Bukit Peninsula, around an hour by car from Seminyak and Kuta and a similar trip from Ngurah Rai International Airport when traffic is reasonable. There is no public transport, so most visitors come by taxi, a ride hailing app or a hired scooter.
The approach is the highlight. A road carved into the white limestone cliff winds down almost to the sand, with parking near the beach, which makes Melasti far easier than the cliff staircase coves nearby. A small access fee is collected on the way down, and the lower car park fills around midday, so an earlier arrival is simpler.

Common questions about Melasti Beach
Is Melasti Beach good for swimming?
It is one of the more swimmable beaches on the Bukit, with calmer, clearer water than the surf beaches nearby and a real turquoise colour on a bright day. It is still open ocean with currents and no guaranteed lifeguard, so swim with care and pay attention to the tide.
Can you drive down to Melasti Beach?
Yes, and that is its main advantage. A road carved into the limestone cliff winds down almost to the sand, with parking near the beach, so unlike Bingin or Padang Padang there is no steep staircase to negotiate. A small access fee is collected on the way down.
Are there beach clubs at Melasti Beach?
Yes. Melasti has a growing beach club scene at the southern end of the sand, including Palmilla, Minoo and Tropical Temptation, with pools and daybeds above the water. Each sets its own entry policy and minimum spend, so confirm with the venue before you go.
Is there an entrance fee for Melasti Beach?
Yes, a modest access fee is collected on the cliff road down to the beach. The amount is set locally and changes over time, so treat it as to be confirmed when you arrive, separate from any beach club charges.
When is the best time to visit Melasti Beach?
Come on a dry season day between about April and October, arriving before the midday coaches and photo groups for the calmest beach and clearest water. Late afternoon is lovely too, when the light warms the white cliffs and the clubs settle into sunset.
