Let us be honest about what a party beach means in Sardinia, because the island is not Ibiza and a visitor expecting a coast of superclubs will be disappointed. Sardinia is chic and expensive, and its nightlife is beach led, running through stylish lidos and beach bars by day and the bars and clubs of the towns behind the sand by night. Set that expectation and the island delivers very lively summer nights indeed.

Two ends of the spectrum stand out. San Teodoro in the north east is the island's busiest, youngest party town, with bars and clubs that fill through July and August and the long sand of La Cinta right on its doorstep. At the other end of the mood, the Costa Smeralda around Porto Cervo is the glamorous, dressier scene, where the night is about smart bars and being seen rather than a big dance floor.

The Costa Smeralda beaches themselves, Liscia Ruja, Pevero and Capriccioli, carry the lidos and the smart day crowd that flows into the Porto Cervo evening. Further south, Villasimius and the Chia coast give a gentler, summer lively version of the same, with developed beaches that buzz in season and quieter nights than the north.

We have ranked the beaches below by how much of a scene they actually deliver, weighing the beach bars by day and the nightlife within reach by night, rather than the postcard alone. Each entry links to its full guide so you can check access, lidos and the honest read on crowds before you go, and remember that operators and opening status change each season.

Ranked by the scene, day and night

Six of the best party beaches in Sardinia

Lively lidos by day, nightlife towns by night.

01
San Teodoro

La Cinta

The party pick of the island, a long ribbon of pale sand and turquoise water on the doorstep of San Teodoro, the busiest, youngest nightlife town in Sardinia. Lidos and beach bars run by day and the town fills with bars and clubs by night through the summer. For a lively beach and a real night out in walking distance, nothing else compares.

02
Costa Smeralda

Liscia Ruja

The longest beach on the Costa Smeralda, with lidos and a smart, monied day crowd that flows into the Porto Cervo nightlife after dark. This is the glamorous end of the Sardinian scene, dressier and pricier than San Teodoro, where the party is about style, beach bars and being seen rather than a dance floor. Book a lounger and a table early in season.

03
Costa Smeralda

Pevero

A polished Costa Smeralda beach with clear water and a see and be seen day crowd, close to the smart bars of Porto Cervo for the evening. It is glamour rather than abandon, a place to spend a stylish day at a lido and slide into the upmarket night nearby. Expensive and exclusive in feel, which is rather the point of this coast.

04
Costa Smeralda

Capriccioli

A pretty, sheltered Costa Smeralda beach with beach bars and a chic, lively day atmosphere in season, well placed for the Porto Cervo and Cala di Volpe nightlife. The scene here is smart and daytime led rather than a late party on the sand, a good base if you want glamorous beach days with the option of a dressed up evening nearby.

05
Villasimius

Porto Giunco

A stunning south coast beach near Villasimius, a summer lively resort area with beach bars by day and a relaxed, busy town for the evening. The nightlife is gentler than San Teodoro or the Costa Smeralda, but in high summer Villasimius buzzes, and the combination of a beautiful beach and an easy night out makes it a strong southern choice.

06
Chia

Su Giudeu

A beautiful Chia beach on the south west coast that gets busy and lively in high summer, with beach bars and a young, holiday crowd. The nightlife here is the lightest on the list, more sunset drinks and beach bar buzz than a club scene, so come for a gorgeous, animated beach day with an easy, low key evening rather than a big night out.

The honest read

Setting the right expectation for the night

The honest read is that you should choose your base by the kind of night you want, because Sardinia offers two very different parties. San Teodoro is the young, busy, affordable scene, with La Cinta as its beach and a town that genuinely fills with bars and clubs in summer. The Costa Smeralda is the glamorous, expensive alternative, where the night is dressier and quieter in volume but far higher in style and price.

It is also worth saying plainly that the island is a beach destination first. The famous coves and protected beaches that make Sardinia special are not party beaches at all, often with few services and no nightlife nearby, so the lively beaches are the developed resort strands rather than the island's most pristine sand. If the night matters most, base yourself in San Teodoro or on the Costa Smeralda and accept the trade.

Timing is the last lever, and it is decisive. The scene lives in July and August, when the towns are at their peak, while June and September are lovely for the beaches but past the peak of the nightlife, and the off season is very quiet indeed. Operators, lidos and opening status change every year, so we keep the live list on the directory and uncertain details say to be confirmed.

See Sardinia beach clubs

The lively beaches of Sardinia are mostly the developed resort strands, where a lido or beach bar rents loungers, shade and food and runs the daytime scene that flows into the town nightlife after dark. La Cinta near San Teodoro and the Costa Smeralda beaches such as Liscia Ruja and Pevero carry the smartest of these, usually with a higher spend on the glamorous coast. Lido operators, opening status and any minimum spend shift with the season, so we keep the live list on the directory. Tell us your dates and the kind of scene you want and we pass the enquiry on to confirm what is open.

Good questions

Before you go

Does Sardinia have party beaches?

Yes, but in its own style. Sardinia is chic and expensive rather than a rave island, so the scene runs through stylish lidos, beach bars and the nightlife of the towns behind the sand. San Teodoro in the north east is the liveliest, younger party town, while the Costa Smeralda around Porto Cervo is the glamorous, dressier end of the spectrum.

Where is the best nightlife in Sardinia?

San Teodoro is the island's busiest party town, with bars and clubs that fill through the summer and the long sand of La Cinta on its doorstep. The Costa Smeralda around Porto Cervo is the upmarket alternative, smaller and far dressier, where the night is about smart bars and being seen rather than a big dance floor.

Is Sardinia like Ibiza for partying?

Not really, and it is better to know that before you book. Sardinia does not have the scale of superclubs that Ibiza does, and its appeal is the beaches first and the nightlife second. You can have very lively summer nights in San Teodoro and a glamorous scene on the Costa Smeralda, but it is a more relaxed, beach led party than the Balearics.

When is the party season in Sardinia?

The scene is concentrated in the high summer, roughly July and August, when the towns are at their busiest and the bars and lidos are in full swing. June and September are quieter and gentler, lovely for the beaches but past the peak of the nightlife. Outside the summer the party towns are very calm, so time it for July or August if the night matters.

Which Sardinia beaches have beach bars and lidos?

The developed resort beaches carry the lidos and beach bars, including La Cinta near San Teodoro and the Costa Smeralda strands such as Liscia Ruja and Pevero, while many of the island's famous coves are protected and have few or no services. Operators and opening status change each season, so we keep the live list on the directory and uncertain details say to be confirmed.
