Paros is busier than it was, and its famous coves fill fast in summer, but the island still hides genuinely quiet beaches for anyone willing to earn them. Seclusion here comes in two forms. There are the undeveloped sands reached by a dirt track and offering nothing at all, kept empty by their access, and there are the well known beaches that are briefly secluded in the early morning before the day trippers and the boats arrive. Both have their place, and we are honest about which is which.

We have ranked the most secluded beaches below for quiet and space first, with a note on what you will and will not find when you get there. Some have a single taverna, most have nothing, and the wildest have no road worth the name. The reward is the thing the headline beaches have lost, room to spread out, a clear swim with no crowd, and the particular calm of a beach that took some effort to reach.

If you take one line from this page, take this one. For real seclusion, point yourself at the undeveloped north and east coast sands such as Lageri and come prepared with water and shade, or take the early hours at a quieter cove such as Faragas or Krios before the crowds. The wildest beaches of all, the clay coves and the remote north, ask the most and give the most quiet in return.

Ranked for seclusion

The most secluded beaches worth the effort

Quiet and space first, with the honest catch on each.

01
Naoussa Bay

Lageri

The pick for real seclusion. A wide, undeveloped sweep of golden sand and low dunes between Naoussa and Santa Maria, reached by a bumpy dirt track through a small reserve. There is nothing built here, no taverna and no sunbed, so the quiet is the whole point. Parts are popular with naturists, so come knowing that.

02
South coast

Faragas

A sheltered golden cove on the quieter south coast, away from the busy north of the island. It has a design led club above the sand, so it is not undeveloped, but its out of the way position and calm turquoise water make it feel a world apart, especially earlier in the day before others find it.

03
Parikia Bay

Krios

A quiet sandy bay across the water from Parikia, reached by a short water taxi or a winding road, with calm water and small coves along the shore. It is low key and local rather than grand, and the smaller coves beyond the main stretch offer the most room and privacy on a busy day.

04
Naoussa Bay

Monastiri

A calm golden cove backed by cliffs and a marine park inside Naoussa bay. It is well known and organised, so it is busy by midday, but arrive early and the sheltered water and the protected setting are briefly and beautifully quiet before the boats and day trippers come in.

Naoussa Bay

Kolymbithres

The island's famous sculpted granite coves, stunning and therefore busy. It is not secluded at peak hours, but in the first hour after sunrise the little pockets of sand between the rocks can be had almost alone, which is the only honest way to find seclusion at a beach this celebrated.

The honest read

The honest read on seclusion

Seclusion on Paros now takes effort, and the beaches that still deliver it do so because they are hard to reach. Lageri, and the truly wild beaches beyond our ranked list, sit at the end of dirt tracks with no facilities, which is exactly what keeps them empty. If you want a beach to yourself you have to accept the trade, bring your own water, food and shade, carry out your rubbish, and treat the lack of a taverna as the price of the quiet rather than a fault.

For the wildest of all, two names are worth knowing even though they have no guide here and no road worth the name. Kalogeros, on the east coast near Marpissa, is an undeveloped beach famous for the mineral clay in its banks that bathers smooth over their skin, reached by a rough track. Tsoukalia, on the remote north coast, is a quiet sweep scattered with ancient pottery shards, with no bus and no facilities. Both reward the adventurous and punish the unprepared, so go self sufficient or not at all.

Be honest about the famous coves. Kolymbithres and Monastiri are beautiful and therefore busy, and they are only secluded in the first hour of the day before the boats and day trippers arrive, so an early start is the whole trick. Faragas and Krios sit far enough from the crowds to feel quiet much of the time. Conditions are typical and never guaranteed, there are no lifeguards on the wild beaches, and currents can run, so judge the sea for yourself and tell someone where you are headed.

Seclusion and service rarely sit together, so the most private beaches have little or nothing, while the quieter organised coves such as Faragas keep a club above the sand for those who want both calm and comfort. On the undeveloped beaches there is nothing to book, and that is the point. We never invent a venue, a minimum spend or an opening status, so unconfirmed details are marked to be confirmed. Browse the directory and send one enquiry to check your date.

Good questions

Before you go

Which is the most secluded beach in Paros?

For real seclusion, Lageri is the pick, a wide undeveloped sweep of sand and dunes between Naoussa and Santa Maria, kept quiet by the bumpy dirt track that reaches it and the lack of any facilities. The wildest of all are Kalogeros on the east coast and Tsoukalia on the remote north, both undeveloped and hard to reach.

Are there undeveloped beaches in Paros with no facilities?

Yes. Lageri has no taverna, sunbed or shade, only sand and dunes, and the clay beach of Kalogeros and the remote Tsoukalia have nothing at all. On these beaches you must bring your own water, food and shade and carry out your rubbish. The quiet is the reward, and the lack of services is the price of it.

Can you find a quiet beach in Paros in peak season?

Yes, with effort or timing. The undeveloped beaches such as Lageri stay quiet even in August because their rough access keeps crowds away. The famous coves such as Kolymbithres and Monastiri are only quiet in the first hour of the day before the boats arrive, so an early start is the trick at the celebrated beaches.

What is Kalogeros beach in Paros known for?

Kalogeros is an undeveloped beach on the east coast near Marpissa, known for the mineral rich clay in its banks that bathers smooth over their skin as a natural mask. It has no facilities and is reached by a rough track, so it is for the prepared and the adventurous. There is no guide for it here yet, so go self sufficient.

Are secluded beaches in Paros safe to swim?

They can be, but there are no lifeguards on the wild beaches and currents can run on any coast, so caution matters more when you are alone. Judge the sea for yourself, keep weaker swimmers close, and tell someone where you are going. Conditions are typical and never guaranteed, and the remote beaches are far from quick help.
