Laem Set is one of the calmest corners of Koh Samui, a rocky headland on the quiet southeast coast where huge smooth granite boulders are stacked along the shore. It is a landscape more than a beach, and the pace here slows to almost nothing.
The water is shallow and gentle, but it is scattered with rocks, so this is somewhere to wade and watch rather than swim properly. Fishermen work the shallows, a handful of small resorts and restaurants line the shore, and the loudest sound is usually the wind in the palms.
What you get is genuine peace within easy reach of the busier beaches. Settle in with a coconut, watch the boats, and let an afternoon drift by. As a place to do very little, Laem Set is hard to beat.
Who it suits: travellers who want stillness, a striking boulder shoreline and a slow afternoon with a drink in hand and no agenda.
Who should skip it: anyone after a swimming beach with soft sand and facilities. Lamai, north along the coast, is the livelier, more practical choice for that.
Beach clubs near Laem Set
Laem Set is too quiet and too rocky for a beach club, and we would not pretend one exists. A few small resorts and restaurants line the shore. For daybed clubs elsewhere on the island and to send a booking enquiry, see our Koh Samui beach club directory.
Laem Set, Koh Samui
Laem Set sits on the southeast coast, reached along quiet lanes off the island ring road. It is an easy scooter ride from Lamai or the south of the island. Signage is light, so a map app helps you find the turning down to the boulders.
- Come for stillness, not for swimming or facilities.
- Bring footwear for the rocky shallows.
- Settle in at a shoreline restaurant and let the afternoon go slowly.

Laem Set questions
Is Laem Set good for swimming?
Not really. The shallows are full of smooth granite boulders, so Laem Set is a place to wade and relax rather than swim laps. For a proper swimming beach, Lamai to the north is the better choice.
What is special about Laem Set?
Its huge smooth boulders and deep quiet. The headland is one of the most peaceful parts of Koh Samui, with a striking rocky shoreline and very few people, even in high season.
Are there places to eat at Laem Set?
A handful of small resorts and shoreline restaurants serve the area. Options are limited compared with the busier beaches, so it pays to plan rather than expect a strip of choices.
When is the best time to visit Laem Set?
February to April brings the calmest sea and the clearest skies. The northeast monsoon late in the year can bring wind and rougher water to this coast.
