Duoglio is a cliff backed cove a short way west of Amalfi, and for many regulars it is where you go to swim when the town beach feels too busy. The water is clearer and calmer, the setting wilder, and the cove is just far enough from Amalfi to thin the crowds. A couple of rustic beach restaurants supply loungers and lunch, and otherwise it is pebbles, cliffs and clean water.
The honest read is that the catch is access. The road route is a long stairway down from the coast road, several hundred steps, and a real climb back up in the heat, so most people arrive by the seasonal boat from Amalfi instead. It is pebbly rather than sandy, facilities are limited to the restaurants, and the free public pebbles between them are modest, so Duoglio suits a swim and a long lunch rather than a big family beach day.
The reward is the water, clear and deep close in and lovely for swimming near the rocks. Favour the shoulder months, take the boat to skip the steps, and let the quiet do its work. For the central beach go to Marina Grande in Amalfi, for boat only seclusion try Santa Croce just along the cliffs, and for a village beach head east to Atrani.
Duoglio mixes free public pebbles with loungers run by its small beach restaurants, rather than a single nightclub style venue. For more club style beds and bars, see our Amalfi Coast beach clubs directory.
Duoglio small beach restaurants run paid loungers and umbrellas alongside their tables by the water, the most comfortable way to spend a day in the cove. Reserve ahead in summer; operators, any minimum spend and boat times are to be confirmed.
Between the restaurants are modest stretches of free public pebbles where you can lay a towel at no charge. There is not much of it and it fills in summer, so arrive early or take a paid lounger instead.
Duoglio lies just west of Amalfi below the coast road. The direct route is a long stairway, several hundred steps down to the cove and a steep climb back, so it pays to weigh the descent against the heat of the day before setting off from the road above.
In season the simplest approach is the boat from Amalfi, a short ride that drops you at the cove without the steps. Bring water and sun protection, as facilities are limited to the cove restaurants, and check seasonal boat timetables and restaurant openings before you go.
Duoglio mixes free pebbles and cove restaurants, but tell us your date and party and we will point you to the right loungers and tables here and along the Amalfi Coast. No charge to enquire.
Either down a long stairway of several hundred steps from the Amalfi coast road, or, far more easily, by the seasonal boat from Amalfi. The boat is the popular choice and spares you the steep climb back up in the heat.
For swimming, many think so. The water at Duoglio is clearer and calmer and the cove far quieter than the central Marina Grande, though you trade easy access for the stairway or a boat ride to reach it.
Yes, there are modest stretches of free public pebbles between the beach restaurants where you can lay a towel at no charge. Space is limited and fills in summer, so arrive early or book a paid lounger.
It is a pebbly, cliff backed cove with coarse grey sand and clear deep water, wilder and quieter than the town beach. Water shoes are useful on the pebbles and when entering the sea.
May, June and September bring warm, settled sea and a quieter cove with easier space and booking than the July and August peak, when even this tucked away beach gets busy.
