Atrani is the smallest town on the Amalfi Coast, tucked into a cleft in the cliffs just around the headland from Amalfi, and its beach is the village front. Where Amalfi can feel overrun, Atrani stays low key, a knot of white houses, arches and a tiny piazza opening straight onto a small stretch of sand. You can walk here from Amalfi in a few minutes, yet it feels a world quieter.
The honest read is that the beach is small and mostly free, a genuine village beach rather than a lido strip. There is limited paid sunbed hire where available, simpler facilities, and the village cafes sit just behind. It does fill in summer because there is not much of it, and it is open to the odd swell, but its charm is precisely that it has stayed local and unpolished while the coast around it grew busy.
The water is clear and usually calm in the sheltered cove, easy for a swim close to shore. Come in the shoulder months and earlier in the day, and use Atrani as the quiet counterpoint to its famous neighbour. For the central town beach next door go to Marina Grande in Amalfi, and for boat only coves with clear deep water try Santa Croce or Duoglio to the west.

Atrani beach is largely free public sand in front of the village, where you can lay a towel at no charge. It is small and fills in summer, so arrive early; this is a village beach rather than a club strip.
Where available, a small amount of paid sunbed and umbrella hire operates on the beach in season. Operators and rates are to be confirmed, so check locally; for full beach club service, Amalfi and the wider coast are a short hop away.
Atrani sits just east of Amalfi, around the headland, and the nicest way to arrive is on foot. A short walk along the coast road or through a pedestrian passage links the two towns in a few minutes, so many people stay in Amalfi and stroll over for a quieter afternoon.
Buses on the coast road stop nearby, though the village heart is pedestrian and parking is very limited, so walking from Amalfi is usually easiest. Bring sun protection and arrive early in summer, as the small beach and piazza fill quickly on warm days.

Just a few minutes on foot. Atrani sits around the headland from Amalfi, linked by a short walk along the coast road or a pedestrian passage, which is why it makes such an easy quieter alternative.
Yes, if you want the Amalfi setting at a slower, more local pace. It is the smallest town on the coast, with a pretty piazza opening onto the sand, and it stays far calmer than its famous neighbour.
Yes, the water is clear and usually calm in the sheltered cove, easy for a swim close to shore. Lifeguard cover is limited, so swim with normal care, as conditions are usually settled but never guaranteed.
May, June and September bring warm, settled sea and the village at its most relaxed, before and after the July and August peak, when the small beach fills quickly on hot days.
