Praia da Falesia is one of the longest and most dramatic beaches in the Algarve, a band of golden sand that runs for several kilometres below towering cliffs of ochre, rust and white, capped with a fringe of umbrella pine. The name means cliff, and the wall of layered rock behind the sand is the real spectacle, shifting colour through the day and glowing deep red in low light.
The length is the point. Falesia stretches between Olhos de Agua and the edge of Vilamoura, with several stepped access points from clifftop car parks and hotels along the top. Near those access points it can be busy in summer, with sunbeds, beach bars and families, but walk a few minutes in either direction and the crowd thins quickly until you have long open sand almost to yourself.
It suits walkers, sun seekers and anyone who likes room to breathe, more than those after a sheltered swimming cove. This is open Atlantic coast, so the water is bracing and can pick up swell and breeze, and there is little natural shade once you leave the foot of the cliffs. Come in May, June or September, walk away from the main steps for space, and time the cliffs for early or late light when the colours are at their best.
Falesia has beach bars and restaurants at its access points rather than one big club. For dedicated club beds, see our Algarve beach clubs directory.
Falesia has a scatter of beach restaurants and bars at its main access points, with sunbed and umbrella hire in season, while the long stretches between stay wild and quiet. Names, opening and prices vary and are to be confirmed.
There is no one large beach club defining Falesia; the appeal is the open sand and cliffs. For full service clubs, nearby Vilamoura and Albufeira have more options. Details are to be confirmed before you visit.
Praia da Falesia stretches between Olhos de Agua and Vilamoura, about thirty minutes west of Faro airport by car. There are several clifftop car parks and access points along its length, each with steps down to the sand, so the beach you reach depends on which entrance you choose.
There is no single main entrance, which is part of the charm. Pick an access point, expect steps down from the clifftop, and bring water, sun cream and shade, as the open sand offers little cover once you leave the foot of the cliffs. Walk away from the steps for the quietest stretches.

It is known for its dramatic cliffs of ochre, rust and white, topped with umbrella pine, running behind several kilometres of golden sand. The combination of long open beach and colourful layered rock makes it one of the most photographed stretches of the central Algarve.
It is open Atlantic coast, so the water is bracing and can pick up swell and breeze, livelier than the sheltered Lagos coves. On calm days it is fine for swimming near the lifeguarded access points, but conditions are typical and never guaranteed, so follow local guidance.
The beach runs for several kilometres between Olhos de Agua and the edge of Vilamoura, with several access points along its length. That length is the appeal, as walking away from the stepped entrances quickly leaves the busiest sand behind.
Yes, several clifftop car parks serve the different access points along the beach, each with steps down to the sand. They fill in peak summer, so arrive in the morning, and remember the climb back up the steps at the end of the day.
May, June and September bring warm weather and space on the long sand. The cliffs look their best in early morning and late evening light, when the ochre and red colours deepen, so time a walk for the start or end of the day.
