The famous Santorini beaches are anything but secluded, so this page is for travellers willing to swap the sunbed strips for space and quiet. The island does have its hidden corners, from the sculpted cliffs of Vlychada to the wild, exposed sands of the north coast and a couple of small coves you have to walk or boat to reach. None of them are far in island terms, but they feel a world away from the bustle of Perissa and Kamari.

We have ranked the beaches below for genuine quiet. How few people you will share the sand with, how undeveloped the setting is, and the trade you make in shade, food and easy parking to get there. Some are simply the quiet end of a known beach, others need a rough track or a boat, and one or two have almost nothing in the way of facilities, which is precisely the point.

If you take one line from this page, take this one. Vlychada gives you the most drama with the least effort, the south coast tracks reward an early start, and the north coast beaches are the wildest of all, so go prepared with water, shade and shoes that handle a rocky path.

Ranked for seclusion

The quiet beaches worth the effort

Space and quiet first, services last.

01
South coast

Vlychada

The most rewarding quiet beach on the island. Soft sand runs below tall pale cliffs sculpted by the wind into a near lunar landscape, and it stays far calmer and emptier than the resort beaches just along the coast. There are a few tavernas near the marina end, but the long stretch beyond feels wonderfully removed.

02
South coast

Mesa Pigadia

A quiet pebble and sand cove below cliffs on the southern tip near Akrotiri, reached by a rough track that keeps the numbers down. A taverna or two cling to the shore in season, but it stays peaceful and scenic, a proper escape from the busier beaches with sheltered water and a remote, end of the road feel.

03
North coast

Pori

A long, wild and largely undeveloped beach on the exposed north coast, where few visitors venture and the sand runs empty for most of its length. It catches the north wind, so pick a calm day, but in return you get genuine space and quiet far from the southeast resort crowds.

04
Near Oia

Katharos

A small, rocky and intimate cove below Oia, reached by a track and a short walk, with a single seasonal taverna and a wonderfully off the radar feel. It is more about a quiet swim off the rocks and an unhurried afternoon than a long sandy day, and the sunsets from here are quietly special.

05
North coast

Koloumbos

One of the island's most remote beaches, a dark sand and pebble bay on the far north coast with almost no facilities and a long known reputation as a quiet, clothing optional spot. It takes effort to reach and offers nothing in the way of services, so it suits only the well prepared seeking total quiet.

The honest read

The honest read on seclusion

Quiet comes at a price on Santorini, and the price is services. The secluded beaches have little or no shade, often a single seasonal taverna at best, and sometimes nothing at all, so you carry your own water, sun cover and snacks. Treat these as half day escapes built around a swim and a picnic, not full days with food and umbrellas on tap.

Access is the other trade. Vlychada is easy to reach and the most forgiving introduction, but Mesa Pigadia and the north coast beaches involve rough tracks, dust and a walk, and parking is informal. Sturdy footwear, an early start to beat both the heat and the few others who know these spots, and a full tank of patience on the back roads all help.

Mind the wind and the exposure. The north coast beaches at Pori and Koloumbos catch the meltemi and can be rough and uncomfortable on a windy day, so save them for calm weather. Conditions are typical rather than guaranteed and there are no lifeguards, so check the sea, respect the remoteness, and tell someone where you are heading if you go to the wildest ones.

Browse Santorini beach clubs

Seclusion and beach clubs rarely sit together on Santorini, so the quiet beaches on this page are mostly about bringing your own kit. When you want a sunbed, shade and food on tap, the organised stretches at Perivolos and Perissa and the promenade at Kamari are the places with the clubs and tavernas, an easy contrast to a wild morning at Vlychada or Mesa Pigadia. We never invent a venue, a minimum spend or an opening status, so anything we cannot confirm is marked to be confirmed. Browse the directory and send one enquiry to check your date.

Good questions

Before you go

Which is the most secluded beach in Santorini?

Vlychada on the south coast offers the most drama for the least effort, with soft sand below sculpted pale cliffs and a far quieter feel than the resort beaches. For deeper seclusion, Mesa Pigadia near Akrotiri and the wild north coast beaches at Pori and Koloumbos are emptier still, but they take more effort to reach.

Are the secluded beaches in Santorini easy to reach?

Vlychada is easy and well worth it, but the quieter spots take work. Mesa Pigadia and the north coast beaches involve rough tracks, informal parking and a short walk, and Katharos near Oia needs a track and a stroll down. Sturdy footwear and an early start make all of them far more pleasant.

Do the secluded beaches in Santorini have any facilities?

Mostly very few. Vlychada and Mesa Pigadia have a seasonal taverna or two, Katharos has a single small one, and the remote north coast beaches have almost nothing. Carry your own water, sun cover and snacks, and plan these as half day swims and picnics rather than full days with services on tap.

Is it ever too windy for the secluded Santorini beaches?

Yes. The exposed north coast beaches at Pori and Koloumbos catch the meltemi wind and can turn rough and uncomfortable, so save them for calm days. The south coast coves at Vlychada and Mesa Pigadia are more sheltered. Always check the forecast, because the wind decides whether the wild beaches are pleasant or not.

Is Koloumbos a naturist beach in Santorini?

Koloumbos on the remote north coast has a long established reputation as a quiet, clothing optional beach. It has almost no facilities and takes real effort to reach, so it suits well prepared travellers seeking total quiet. Norms can change season to season, so treat that as typical rather than guaranteed and go respectfully.
