Catch is the name every first time visitor to Phuket hears, and for good reason: it was the club that started the island trend, moved from its original Surin home and reopened on the Bang Tao sand, and it still draws the biggest, liveliest crowd of any club on the coast. For a value minded traveller that fame is a double edged thing. It buys you a genuinely polished club with real music and a proper kitchen, and it also means these are the most expensive beds on the beach, so the whole game here is choosing the right seat rather than the most photographed one.

The day pass is a minimum spend that comes straight back as food and drink credit, so it rewards a real lunch and an afternoon of drinks and punishes the quick lie down. Read the seat list carefully and it turns out the club has quietly built a much better value option into its own tariff.

Catch runs at a higher tempo than the calmer dining clubs further along Bang Tao. The pool and front rows fill with a social, dressed up crowd, the music builds through the afternoon toward a sunset peak, and on weekends the place genuinely buzzes in a way that has kept it at the top of the island for years. If you want the scene, this is where it is, and the sunset over the northwest horizon is the daily headline the whole club times itself around.

Here is the value read a savvy traveller needs. Every seat is a minimum spend that returns as food and drink, so the real question is how many of you there are and how hungry. The front row oceanfront sunbed is 8,000 baht but priced for two, while the 6,000 baht band buys a seaview daybed or a shaded chill cabana that seats up to three. A group of three that plans to eat and drink will clear a 6,000 baht minimum without trying, sit out of the sun, and spend a third less per head than the couples paying for the very front line. Where it falls short is simply the price ceiling. Independent Phuket guides describe the food and drink as high, so the minimum spend disappears faster than it does at cheaper clubs, and if your group is light on appetite the day can feel dear. The sunset crush on a weekend is real, and none of this is a secret, so the beach in front gets busy. For a quiet cheap afternoon this is the wrong address, and the right one is often a towel on the free sand a few steps away.

Bang Tao is one of the longest beaches in Phuket, a broad soft sand curve on the northwest coast that stays relatively calm through the main season and runs for kilometres past the resorts and clubs. Catch sits at the southern end of Bang Tao at Choeng Thale, a short drive from the Laguna resorts and around forty five minutes to an hour from the airport depending on traffic. The turning is easy to miss, so a mapped pin saves a lap of the back lanes.
