Dukley Beach & Bar

Actual sand on a coast built of pebbles, with a taxi boat that runs until midnight.

The verdict

  • Book ifSand under your feet is the point, because this Zavala headland beach is one of the few genuine sandy club addresses on a riviera that otherwise does its lounging on pebble and platform
  • Skip ifYou want music into the small hours at the water, since the beach itself closes at 20:00 and the kitchen already winds down at 19:00, leaving only the taxi boat running late
  • One thing to knowA reserved sunbed is held only until 12:00, and a 10 percent service charge is added to every final bill

Names first, because this venue has two. For years the address on the Zavala peninsula traded as Dukley Beach Lounge, and that is still how much of the Budva riviera refers to it. The resort behind it, Dukley Hotel & Resort, now presents the beach as Dukley Beach & Bar. Same headland, same operation, one page: this one, ranked first in our Montenegro Coast club directory.

What the name change has not altered is the material that makes the place matter. Montenegro’s coast is a masterclass in stone, pebble coves, shingle crescents, concrete bathing platforms bolted to rock, and against all of that Dukley holds something close to a monopoly asset in central Budva: a genuinely sandy beach. The resort itself calls it one of the rare sandy beaches in the town, and the composition follows from it, rows of sunbeds and loungers set straight onto the sand, VIP cabanas behind, the bar at the back, and the green Zavala headland closing the frame. It photographs like the Mediterranean of a poster, and unusually for this genre, the substrate in the pictures is the substrate you get.

The honest read

Read the clock before you read the menu

The fine print here is temporal, and it rewards attention. The beach opens at 09:00 but the kitchen does not serve until 12:30, so an early arrival is a swim and a coffee rather than a brunch. At the other end, food service stops at 19:00 and the beach closes at 20:00, a full hour of golden light in which you can lounge but not order. If your ideal beach day crescendos into a long dinner at the water as the sun drops, that is not the architecture of this one: the day here is built to peak in the afternoon, and the after hours energy belongs to the resort’s other venues up the hill.

The second clause worth reading twice is the noon rule. A reserved sunbed is held until 12:00 and no longer, which is unusually strict for the Adriatic and cuts both ways: it punishes a lazy morning, but it also means front rows actually free up on days when reservations do not show. Add the stated 10 percent service charge to whatever you are quoted, because it applies to the final bill rather than appearing on the menu prices.

On cost, the resort publishes nothing, and the one dated data point we found, a visitor paying 140 euros for two sunbeds in the height of August 2025, should be read as a peak season ceiling rather than a standing rate. Shoulder months on this coast are consistently gentler, and our Montenegro day bed price guide puts that figure in context against the rest of the riviera.

The sand at Zavala

The Zavala peninsula is the green knuckle of land separating Budva’s town bay from the resort sweep of Becici, and Dukley’s beach sits in its lee, sheltered in typical summer conditions and clearer than the busy town strands. Either neighbour makes a good comparison walk: the long urban rhythm of Slovenska Plaza on the Budva side, or the broad, hotel lined crescent of Becici over the headland, both covered in our beach guides. Between them, Dukley’s pocket of sand is the smallest and the most composed of the three.

Getting there and booking

Come by water if you can

By road the address is Jadranski put on the Zavala peninsula, a few minutes from central Budva, and the venue lists parking among its complimentary amenities. The more stylish arrival is the resort’s taxi boat, which runs from 09:00 all the way to midnight and turns the trip across the bay into part of the day. That boat is also the answer to the 20:00 beach close: dinner in Budva old town is a short hop over the water rather than a drive.

Reservations go through the resort’s SevenRooms page, through WhatsApp, Viber or Telegram on +382 69 160 003, or through the DayPass platform, which confirms instantly against a small down payment and refunds in full if you cancel at least 24 hours ahead. Since no sunbed rate is published, give us your date and how many of you there are and we will confirm the current rate, cabana availability and whether the noon hold can flex for your group, free and with no obligation. Good questions

Before you go

Is Dukley Beach Lounge the same place as Dukley Beach & Bar?

Yes. The beach on the Zavala peninsula spent years known around Budva as Dukley Beach Lounge, and the resort now presents it as Dukley Beach & Bar. Same sand, same headland, same operation within Dukley Hotel & Resort, so treat the two names as one address when you search or book.

How much is a sunbed at Dukley Beach & Bar?

The resort publishes no sunbed rate card, so the price stays to be confirmed for your date. As one dated reference point, a visitor reported paying 140 euros for two sunbeds on a peak August day in 2025. Whatever you are quoted, remember the venue adds a 10 percent service charge to the final bill.

What are the opening hours at Dukley Beach & Bar?

The beach runs every day from 09:00 to 20:00, but the kitchen keeps shorter hours, with food service from 12:30 to 19:00. The resort’s taxi boat runs far longer, from 09:00 to midnight, which makes arriving or leaving by water the most flexible part of the whole day.

How do you book a sunbed at Dukley Beach & Bar?

The resort takes beach reservations through its SevenRooms page and answers on WhatsApp, Viber and Telegram at +382 69 160 003, with day passes also sold through the DayPass platform against a small down payment, refundable on cancellation up to 24 hours ahead. Note that a reserved sunbed is held only until 12:00, so claim it before noon or risk losing it.

Is the beach at Dukley sandy?

Yes, and that is the headline. The resort describes it as one of the rare sandy beaches in Budva, on a coast where most of the shoreline is pebble, shingle or concrete platform. If bare feet on actual sand matter to you, this is one of the few club addresses on the Budva riviera that delivers it.

Is Dukley Beach & Bar good for families?

The venue positions itself for both families and groups of friends, and it publishes a separate kids menu alongside the main card. Changing rooms, showers and towel service are listed among the amenities, and the shallow entry over sand is gentler for small swimmers than the pebble beaches nearby, in typical conditions.
