Los Bucaneros trades today as Bucaneros Binibeca, and its story is half the reason to care. For roughly five years the old fisherman’s hut with the red door sat shut, closed first by the pandemic and then tangled in a concession dispute that ran through the courts, until Sant Lluis put the site out to a ten year tender and the chiringuito reopened in the summer of 2025. What came back is the same low building wedged into the rocks at the western end of Binibeca, with tables anchored to the stone and straw umbrellas leaning over them.

Our honest position, the one we hold on the Menorca club directory, is that this island is short on true beach clubs and long on chiringuitos that own a single perfect view, and Bucaneros is the sharpest example of the second kind. For two people the pitch could not be simpler. There is nowhere else on Menorca where your table sits this close to the sea, close enough that the locals describe it as the one place you drink with your feet in the water.

The setting is the whole story, and it lives up to itself. Tables sit on the rocks at the lip of the water, straw umbrellas above them, and the sea stays close enough that its sound never leaves the meal. That intimacy is the catch too. Binibeca is a small cove, Bucaneros holds only so many front tables, and the wave of attention since the reopening means the best seats go fast on a summer evening, so for two you are competing for the handful of places everyone on the beach can see are the finest in the house.

The right hour is late. This is a sunset bar before it is a lunch spot, and the western end of Binibeca gives it a soft evening light. A booked table as the sun drops, the tapas coming slowly and the water going gold, is the version worth travelling for. Daytime works too, quieter and easy for a drink with your feet near the shallows, but the romance is banked for the evening.

Food is Mediterranean and fresh, tapas and local plates through the day with breakfasts from the morning, and the reopening accounts praise the warmth of the service as much as the kitchen. The counterweight is the bill: no fixed tariff, and at least one visitor came away startled by a round of drinks and a snack that pushed past 120 euros. The rest is price and youth, a tiny cove that fills quickly, a premium not every plate justifies, and the teething issues of a business a year back from a long closure, with facilities still being sorted into early 2026. None of it undoes the position on the rocks. You arrive knowing what the evening costs, in euros and in patience, and let the water do the rest.

Binibeca is one of the prettier small coves of the southeast, white sand and clear shallow water framed by low rock, and it draws a crowd in season because it photographs so well. Just along the shore, Binibeca Vell is the cluster of whitewashed lanes and cube houses that gives the area its postcard image. The cove is compact, so the swimming is easy and the walk short, and it pairs naturally with a table at the bar. Binibeca sits on the southeast coast in the municipality of Sant Lluis, roughly twenty minutes by car from Mahon and the airport. Parking is around the village rather than on the cove, so you walk the last stretch down to the sand, where the red door marks the western end. Booking works through the venue directly, its own site and social pages taking enquiries, and it has accepted evening table reservations since reopening, the route to take for a sunset seat between late June and August.
