Es Corb Mari

Menorca does not really do beach clubs, and Es Corb Mari is the best argument for why it does not need to. It is a xiringuito in the old sense, a beach shack grown into a proper bar and restaurant, standing on the sand of Son Bou directly behind the lounger rows, with a terrace that looks straight down the longest beach on the island. There are tapas and platos combinados, a takeaway hatch for the towel crowd, cold beer, and on summer evenings a musician playing the sun down, most often a lone guitarist.

On both counts the news is good, which on a Balearic beachfront in 2026 is worth writing down.

The food is simple on purpose. Fried anchovies, grilled squid, salads, pa amb oli style bread with tomato, combination plates for hungry families, and whatever the fryer and the grill are doing that day. Reviewers who order along those lines come away happy and calling the value fair, and the terrace works as well for a mid morning coffee as for a two hour lunch. It is not a fine dining kitchen and does not pretend to be, and among hundreds of warm accounts you will find the occasional furious one, which is the standard distribution for any busy seasonal beach kitchen. Stay with the fish, the tapas and the cold drinks and you are in the safe zone.

The real product is the hour before dark. The terrace faces the open run of the beach with clear western sky, one long standing island guide calls it the top sundown drinks location on Son Bou, and the live sets at dusk give it a gentle festival feel without a ticket booth in sight. That is the value comparison that matters on Menorca: the island’s most famous sunset, at the cave bar of Cova d’en Xoroi, charges a session fee before your first drink. Here the same sun goes down for the price of a beer.

What it lacks is everything a club would have. Nobody brings you a bed, there is no pool deck, no bottle list and no DJ, and by late evening the beach is dark and quiet. If your perfect day needs service choreography, look at the south coast resort coves instead. If it needs squid, sand and a guitarist as the sky goes orange, this is the island doing what it does best.

Son Bou is nearly three kilometres of pale sand, organized with loungers and facilities at the eastern resort end and increasingly wild as you walk west past the dunes, where the crowd thins to almost nothing even in August. Behind the beach lies the Prat de Son Bou wetland, a reed marsh alive with birds, and at the eastern tip sit the ruins of a fifth century basilica worth the five minute detour. Son Bou hangs off the south coast below Alaior, about a fifteen minute drive, with the road dropping through a cliff gate to the resort and its car parks. Those parks fill by late morning in August, so time your arrival like a local, early for the swim or late for the sunset shift. Buses run from Alaior and Mao in season. Once on the sand, the bar is easy: it stands right behind the lounger section at the developed end, before the beach empties out to the west.

There is no reservation engine to outsmart, and most nights none is needed.
