If you are staying in Marmaris and the town beach has left you cold, Icmeler is the answer, and it is an easy one. It sits about eight kilometres southwest around the same great bay, close enough to reach in twenty minutes on a dolmus yet far enough from the marina to swim in clearly cleaner water. The bay is a near amphitheatre, a broad sweep of golden sand with steep pine mountains rising straight behind it, and that backdrop does a lot of the work of making it feel a cut above the central strip.
What makes Icmeler the best all round bay on this coast is that it gets the basics right. The sand is soft and properly sandy, a relief after the shingle that defines so many of the coves. The water is calm, clear and gently shelving, which suits families and unfussy swimmers. And a full resort sits at your back, so a cold drink, a lunch, a parasol or a boat trip is never more than a few steps away. It asks very little and gives a good, reliable beach day in return.
The honest caveat is the flip side of all that ease. Icmeler is developed and, in July and August, genuinely busy, a resort beach rather than a quiet escape, and the central section can feel packed at the height of summer. If wide sand and clear water with full facilities is what you want, this is the pick of the area and well worth the short trip. If it is solitude you are after, do not stop here. Carry on over the headland to the calmer cove at Turunc, or further still to the wide, wild bay at Kumlubuk, where the effort buys you real quiet.
Icmeler is fronted by beach venues and hotel loungers along the bay rather than ruled by a single club. We describe the setting factually and route enquiries through our directory; we never invent venues, minimum spends or amenities.
The sand is lined with beach setups, cafes and bars offering loungers, parasols and food and drink to your spot, the usual way to spend an Icmeler day. Their names, menus, set charges and any minimum spend are set by the venues and to be confirmed.
Many of the resort hotels behind the beach run their own lounger sections and service on the sand. Access, day passes and whether non guests are welcome vary by property and are independent and to be confirmed.
Icmeler lies about eight kilometres southwest of Marmaris around the bay, and the easiest way in is the dolmus minibus, which runs the coast road frequently and takes roughly twenty minutes for a few lira. A taxi covers it in a little over ten minutes, and there is a shaded coastal path through the pines for those who would rather walk between the two resorts. In summer water taxis cross the bay as well, and arriving by sea is the nicest approach of all. Dalaman airport is about an hour and a half by road. Conditions are typical and never guaranteed.
If you are coming for the day, there is parking in the resort behind the beach, though it fills in peak season, so an early start or the dolmus saves the bother. To settle in you will usually take a lounger set from a beach venue or hotel and pay for it or for your food and drink, so choose your spot early and aim for the quieter western end under the mountains for more room. Bring water shoes only if you wander to the rockier edges, and use Icmeler as a base from which the coves are an easy onward boat trip.

Icmeler is one of the genuinely sandy beaches of the area, a clean golden strip roughly four hundred and fifty metres long and free of the pebbles and rocks that catch you out at the coves. The entry shelves gently, which is part of why it suits families and easy swimming better than the rockier bays further round.
Yes, noticeably. Set further round the bay under the pine mountains and away from the marina, Icmeler has cleaner, clearer water than the busy town front, which is the main reason to make the short trip. It is calm and sheltered too, so it is a better swimming beach overall than the central strip.
It is the easiest all round family choice on this coast. The sand is soft, the entry is gentle and shallow, the water is calm and clear, and a full resort of restaurants, shops and facilities sits right behind the beach. It is developed and busy in peak summer rather than wild, but for a fuss free family day it is the pick of the area.
The beach is a free public shore, but most of the frontage is laid out with loungers and parasols run by beach venues and hotels that charge for a set or expect you to eat and drink. You can use the public sand for nothing, though it fills in high season. Their rates are set by the venues and to be confirmed.
