Chileno Beach
The pick of the region and it costs nothing to enter. A protected cove with calm, clear water, a resident reef for snorkelling and proper shade trees, Chileno is the rare Cabo beach where the swimming is genuinely safe and genuinely good. The catch is the small free car park, which fills early, so arrive before mid morning rather than paying for a resort day pass nearby.
Santa Maria Beach
A horseshoe cove next door to Chileno with the same sheltered water and rocky ends full of fish, and the same honest price of zero. It is a touch smaller and has fewer facilities, which keeps it quieter. Bring your own water and snorkel gear rather than renting at a premium, and you have one of the best value swims in Baja.
Lovers Beach
The photogenic strip of sand at Land's End beside the Arch, reachable only by water taxi from the marina. The Sea of Cortez side is calm and swimmable, the Pacific side just steps away is dangerous and signed as such. Worth the short boat ride for the scenery, but agree the water taxi price before you step in, because that is where the casual overcharge happens.
Medano Beach
The main town beach, swimmable, walkable from the marina and lined with vendors, bars and the entire beach club scene. This is where Cabo spends money: daybeds, minimum spends and a constant stream of sellers. Lovely for energy and a long lunch, poor for peace and quiet. You can enjoy it for the price of one drink if you ignore the hard sell.
Playa Las Viudas
Widow's Beach, a small free public cove just west of Santa Maria with rock pools, no facilities and almost no crowd. It rewards anyone willing to skip the resort strip entirely. There is nothing to buy here, which is precisely the appeal, so pack everything in and carry everything out.
Palmilla Beach
The most reliably swimmable beach on the San Jose side, calm and clean below the luxury hotels, with a public access road that many visitors never find. You can use it without being a hotel guest. It suits families who want gentle water away from the Cabo San Lucas party, and it costs nothing beyond the parking.
Cerritos Beach
A wide Pacific beach about an hour north toward Todos Santos, with a gentler break than the Cabo Pacific coast and a genuine surf and swim scene at the patrolled central section. Divorce Beach
