San Agustin is the south coast before it grew loud. One resort east of Playa del Ingles, it was among the first to be built here, and it has aged into the quiet one, a low rise strip of older hotels, leafy gardens and a calm beach of darker gold sand. The crowd skews to regulars and longer stay visitors who come back for the same apartment and the same cafe, and the pace is gentle. There is no neon strip and no thumping bar, just a sheltered bay and a promenade that empties early.
The honest read is that the sand here is darker and coarser than the bright imported bays at Amadores or Anfi, and the resort behind looks its age. If you want pale tropical sand and a polished scene, this is not it. What San Agustin offers instead is calm, space and a local feel that the flashier resorts have lost, plus a sheltered western end that swims gently and suits families who find Playa del Ingles too busy.
The pleasure of San Agustin is in the eating and the rhythm. The older resort keeps a clutch of honest Canarian restaurants and value menus that the newer strips price out, so a plate of grilled fish or a bowl of stew with papas arrugadas and mojo costs less and tastes more lived in. Swim in the calm morning, take a long unhurried lunch in the shade, and let the quiet promenade carry you back. It is the south at half volume, and better for it.
San Agustin is an older, quieter resort with no beach club on the sand. The nearest clubs sit along the Meloneras and Maspalomas strip, compared in our Gran Canaria beach clubs directory.
San Agustin is a calm, older resort beach with sunbed hire and promenade restaurants rather than a daybed club on the sand. That quiet is the point of the place. For a club day, the Chester Meloneras and the southern bays are a short drive west.
A short drive west toward the dunes brings the smarter resort clubs and dining terraces, including the Chester Meloneras. Operators and any minimum spend vary by season and are to be confirmed, so check before you go.
San Agustin sits just east of Playa del Ingles on the south coast, around 25 minutes by car from Las Palmas airport on the southern motorway, and easily reached by bus or taxi from the other southern resorts. A coastal path links it westward to Playa del Ingles and on toward the Maspalomas dunes.
Parking is available around the resort and is easier than at the busier beaches nearby. The walk down to the sand involves some steps and slopes, so allow time with young children or buggies, and bring sun cover for the open stretches of the bay.

Yes. San Agustin is the calm, older resort east of Playa del Ingles, with a sheltered beach of darker gold sand, a low key promenade and a local feel. It suits travellers and longer stay visitors who want space and quiet rather than the neon and noise of the busier southern strips.
Darker volcanic gold, mixed with fine shingle in places, rather than the pale imported sand of the man made bays at Amadores and Anfi del Mar. It is a natural southern beach with more character and less gloss, which is part of why the resort feels calmer and more local.
It can be. The sheltered western end of the bay is calm and gentle for swimming, and the resort is quieter than Playa del Ingles, which suits families who find the bigger beaches too busy. There are sunbeds, showers and restaurants behind, though the sand is coarser than the calm man made bays.
The older resort keeps a clutch of honest Canarian restaurants and value menus that the newer strips have priced out. Look for grilled fresh fish, stews and papas arrugadas with mojo, eaten slowly in the shade. It is some of the better value, more lived in eating on the south coast.
April, May and October bring warm, settled weather and light crowds, ideal for a quieter beach day. The sheltered bay swims well most of the year thanks to the mild climate, and the calm pace of the resort makes it pleasant even in the busier summer months.
