The verdict

The honest short answer

Published 22 January 2026. Last reviewed 28 March 2026. Conditions described are typical and never guaranteed.

For
Families and first time visitors who want soft sand, easy water and the reassurance of showers, chair rental and a daytime lifeguard team in one place.
Best spot
The stretch near the lifeguard flags off Vo Nguyen Giap, with an early swim before the heat and a shaded lounger from one of the beach bars for the middle of the day.
Know
It is the busy, developed beach, so it fills on summer afternoons. Come early for calm water and space, and treat the posted hours and flags as the rule.
Quick facts
Sand
Soft white
A long run of fine pale sand that stays comfortable underfoot, wide enough that even a busy day leaves room to spread out away from the water.
Water
Gentle entry
The shore shelves gently, so on a settled dry season day the water is calm and easy for children and casual swimmers. Surf and rip current pick up in the wet months.
Entry
Free public
The sand is free public space with no entry fee. Loungers, umbrellas and the beach bars charge for service, with rates to be confirmed on the day.
Facilities
Strong
Freshwater showers, changing areas, chair and float rental, parking and food stalls, plus cafes and seafood restaurants a short walk back from the sand.
Lifeguard
Daytime team
A beach safety team patrols through the day in season and posts swim flags. Swimming is discouraged after dark when visibility drops, so plan to be in the water by late afternoon.
Best months
February to August
Warm, mostly dry weather with the calmest sea. The wet season from September brings heavier surf and the typhoon risk peaks in October and November.
The honest read

My Khe is the beach that put Da Nang on the map, and for a family it is the easy yes. The sand is soft, pale and wide, the shoreline shelves gently rather than dropping away, and the whole front is set up for a real day out with showers, changing areas, chair rental and food close at hand. You can arrive with children and not have to think too hard about logistics, which is exactly what you want on the first day of a trip.

The water is the main reason it suits families. On a calm dry season morning the sea is gentle and clear, and the gradual slope means little ones can paddle near the shore while you keep an eye from a lounger. A beach safety team works through the day and posts flags, so you have guidance on where and when it is sensible to swim. None of that is a guarantee, and conditions change, so always read the flags and the sea yourself before going in.

Now the honest part. My Khe is the developed, popular beach, so on summer afternoons it gets genuinely busy and the loungers fill. The magic of the place is in the early morning, when locals come down to swim and exercise, the air is cool and the water is at its calmest. If your idea of a beach day is an empty stretch of sand, this is not it in peak season, and you would be happier down at Bac My An or Non Nuoc.

Who should come here: families who want soft sand, gentle water and everything to hand, and anyone visiting Da Nang for the first time. Who should look elsewhere: travellers chasing a quiet, undeveloped cove. If that is you, pair an early My Khe swim with a calmer afternoon at Bac My An just down the coast, the foot of the Marble Mountains at Non Nuoc, or the laid back local strip at My An.

The club layer

Clubs on and near the sand

My Khe is a free public beach lined with bars, loungers and a couple of full clubs. Names and opening dates shift by season, so confirm directly and use the Da Nang club directory to plan a bookable day.

  • Kala Kala Beach Club
A large open air club set in the Danabeach complex overlooking My Khe, with a pool, restaurant and loungers. A practical choice for families who want a base with shade and food. Minimum spend and opening hours to be confirmed.
  • Casa Bay Beach Club
An open, wooden toned club right beside the My Khe sand, set up for daytime lounging and meals by the sea. Day passes and any minimum spend to be confirmed directly.
  • The Roof Da Nang
A beachfront rooftop bar and lounge with views over My Khe, more of a sunset and evening spot than a daytime family base. Details and reservations to be confirmed directly.
  • Free public sand
The beach itself is free public space, and most families simply rent a lounger and umbrella from one of the concessions along the front. Arrive early in summer to claim a shaded spot.
Getting there and essentials

My Khe runs along Vo Nguyen Giap on the eastern side of the river, around ten to fifteen minutes by taxi or ride app from the city centre and roughly fifteen minutes from Da Nang International Airport. Most families simply take a metered taxi or a Grab car to one of the beach access points, and there is parking near the main entrances if you hire a car or scooter.

Bring or rent an umbrella, because natural shade on the open sand is limited, and plan your swim for the morning or late afternoon to avoid the strongest midday heat and sun. Freshwater showers and changing areas make it easy to rinse off before lunch, and the cafes and seafood places just behind the beach are handy for a meal without a long trek. Swimming is discouraged after dark, so wrap up water time before evening.
