Agia Marina holds the two most groomed beach operations in western Crete within a few hundred metres of each other, and Red Havana is the one that leans hardest into comfort. The club styles itself the number one beach bar in Chania and backs the boast with equipment: a palm grove that reads more Caribbean than Cretan, sunbeds with genuine padding rather than gesture cushions, a row of shaded cabanas, and the single most useful amenity on this coast, a pool that is actually heated.

That last detail deserves its own sentence. Greek beach clubs almost never heat their water, which quietly shortens the season everyone pays for. Here a late spring or early autumn booking keeps its promise, and it is a large part of why the club sits second on our Crete beach club directory, directly behind its next door rival. Everything else, the Salty Edge kitchen, the shisha service, the transfers, builds on that base of a day that simply works.

The club’s real product is frictionlessness. You are waved into a free car park by an attendant, your luggage disappears into storage if you have come straight from a flight, the wifi is free, the shower is clean, and a waiter finds you before you have finished choosing a bed. Add the heated pool and the effect is a private resort compressed into a strip of beach, which is precisely what a certain kind of traveller wants from the last day of a holiday. More than a thousand Tripadvisor reviews and a standing certificate of excellence say the formula lands.

The kitchen earns its keep too. Salty Edge runs from breakfast through dinner on Mediterranean lines with local ingredients, seafood plates that photograph as well as they eat, and a cocktail list where the King George has become the house signature. Evening is when the group’s other ambition surfaces: concerts, DJ nights, cocktail parties and full moon parties that the club promises run to the early morning hours. Book a cabana for the day and you can roll straight into the night without surrendering your corner.

The honest caveats are two. First, the soundtrack: DJs play all day, every day, and while the daytime register is lounge rather than rave, this is not the place to finish a novel. Second, the opacity of the money. Nothing resembling a price list is published, the figures in circulation are several seasons old, and the plushest corners will cost meaningfully more than the reported floor. The beach itself is a long, gently shelving Blue Flag sand about ten minutes west of Chania, with the islet of Thodorou sitting on the horizon and water that stays shallow far enough out for children and nervous swimmers. It is unashamedly a resort shore, hotels and tavernas at its back, and between the clubs there is plenty of free sand with rental umbrellas at ordinary prices. Red Havana fronts the old national road through Agia Marina at number 45, roughly a quarter of an hour from Chania town and half an hour from the airport, with the club’s own free parking removing the one genuine headache of this coast in August. The Chania to Platanias bus stops within a short walk.
