Capo di Feno Beach
Best for. Surfers and sunset lovers who want a wild, open beach close to the city.
Best spot. The wider Grand Capo di Feno strand, where the waves and the western light are best.
Know this. This is a swell exposed beach, so surf and currents can be strong and swimming demands caution.
Capo di Feno is the wild beach that sits surprisingly close to Ajaccio, just over the headland from the city yet a world away in mood. Reached by a small winding road, it faces the open west and takes the swell head on, which is why it has become the surf beach for the area and one of its favourite places to watch the sun drop into the sea. There are in fact two beaches here, the larger Grand Capo di Feno and the smaller Petit Capo di Feno, linked by the same rugged stretch of coast.
The character is the opposite of a sheltered cove. Where the gulf beaches are calm and tame, Capo di Feno is breezy and alive, with waves that surfers chase through the cooler months and an open horizon that makes the evenings memorable. On a settled summer day the water can be gentle enough for an easy swim, but the beach earns its reputation when there is a swell running.
That same exposure is the honest warning. Surf and currents can be strong here, and conditions change with the weather, so this is not a beach to treat casually for swimming. Come for the waves, the wide open sand and the sunset, keep an eye on the sea, and you have one of the most characterful beaches within easy reach of Ajaccio.
Clubs on this beach
Capo di Feno is a wild surf beach rather than a polished club, but it does have a seasonal paillote scene, the casual beach restaurants that come alive in summer for lunch, drinks and sunset. Their names and hours vary year to year and are best confirmed locally. For organised beach clubs with daybeds, see the Corsica directory.

West coast near Ajaccio, Corsica
Capo di Feno lies just northwest of Ajaccio, reached by a small winding road over the headland from the city or from the Route des Sanguinaires. The drive is short in distance but slow in practice, so allow more time than the map suggests.
A car is the easiest way to arrive, with informal parking near the sand. There is no convenient public transport to the beach, and the winding approach is part of what keeps it feeling remote despite being so close to the city.

Common questions about Capo di Feno
Is Capo di Feno good for surfing?
Yes. Its open western aspect catches the swell, which makes it the main surf beach near Ajaccio, with the best waves often arriving in autumn and winter. Summer is generally calmer and better for swimming.
Is it safe to swim at Capo di Feno?
On calm summer days swimming can be pleasant, but the beach is exposed to swell and currents can be strong, and lifeguard cover is not guaranteed. Always judge conditions and swim with caution.
How far is Capo di Feno from Ajaccio?
It is just over the headland from the city, a short drive on a small winding road. The distance is modest, but the slow road means you should allow extra time for the journey.
Are there restaurants at Capo di Feno?
There are seasonal beach restaurants, often called paillotes, that open in the warmer months for lunch, drinks and sunset. Their names and hours change, so confirm them before relying on a meal there.
What is the difference between Grand and Petit Capo di Feno?
Grand Capo di Feno is the larger, more open strand and the main surf and sunset beach, while Petit Capo di Feno is the smaller neighbour. Both share the same wild, west facing character.
