The verdict

Best for. Couples who want the famous Canal d'Amour coves at first or last light, with an easy lively resort behind them for the evening.

Best spot. Walk west to the sandstone coves at the Canal d'Amour and time it for sunrise or the final hour of sun, when the rock turns gold and the channels go quiet.

Know this. The main resort beach is busy and noisy in summer, so the romance here is a matter of hours and a short walk, not the centre of the strip.

The honest read

Sidari sells itself on a single beautiful image, the Canal d'Amour, and the honest thing to say is that the image is real but it is not the whole place. The town behind the sand is one of the busiest resorts on the north coast, a cheerful run of bars, tavernas and shops built for a big, lively summer. If you arrive at midday in August expecting a quiet cove for two, you will find the famous rocks shoulder to shoulder and the main beach loud with families and music. That is not a fault, it is simply what Sidari is, and it is better to know it before you come.

The romance is here, but it keeps unsociable hours. Walk west from the main beach to where the soft sandstone has been carved by the sea into cliffs, fingers and narrow channels, and at sunrise or in the last hour of light the whole place transforms. The stone turns honey and rose, the little coves empty, and you can swim through the clear water between the rocks with almost no one around. This is the Canal d'Amour that the postcards mean, and the legend that couples who swim the channel together stay together feels a great deal more convincing without a crowd watching.

So treat Sidari as a base rather than a hideaway. Take the lively evening for what it is, a good dinner and an easy night out, then claim the rocks early. If what you really want is a wild cove or a calm pebble bay to yourselves, the better couples water is a short drive away at Porto Timoni and Agios Georgios Pagon, or across on the northeast coast around Kassiopi. Come to Sidari for the sandstone at the golden hours and you will not be disappointed. Come expecting seclusion at noon and you will.

The club layer

Clubs on this beach

Sidari runs on beach bars, tavernas and seasonal sunbed concessions rather than a single polished club. Minimum spends and opening hours move with the season, so ask the venue when you enquire.

Getting there and essentials

North coast, Corfu

Sidari sits on the north coast, around forty five minutes from Corfu Town by car on the main road through the centre of the island. The resort itself is flat and walkable, with the main beach, the bars and the Canal d'Amour all within a short stroll.

Buses run from Corfu Town in season, which spares the parking, though a car lets you reach the quieter bays to the south and west on the same day. For a couple, the smart play is to base in the resort and drive out for the wilder water when the crowds build.

Common questions about Sidari

Is Sidari romantic for couples?

Only in places and only at the right hours. The Canal d'Amour rocks just west of the resort are genuinely lovely at sunrise and in the last hour of light, when the sandstone glows and the little coves empty out. The main resort strip, with its bars and packed family beach, is busy and loud, so plan around the quiet edges of the day.

What is the Canal d'Amour at Sidari?

It is a run of sculpted sandstone cliffs and narrow channels just west of the main beach, full of small swimmable coves. Local legend says couples who swim through the channel together stay in love. It is the reason to come, though it crowds heavily in the middle of a summer day.

How crowded does Sidari get?

Very busy in July and August. Sidari is one of the north coast resort hubs and the main beach and the Canal d'Amour rocks fill from mid morning. An early start or a late afternoon visit, especially at the rocks, keeps it calm and gives you the soft light.

Is there a beach club at Sidari?

Sidari runs on beach bars, tavernas and seasonal sunbed concessions along the main sandy beach rather than a single polished club. Names and prices vary by season, so confirm with the venue when you visit. For a calmer couples setting, the rocks at the Canal d'Amour and the bays further along the coast suit two better.

Where should couples go instead of the Sidari resort beach?

Walk west to the Canal d'Amour coves at a quiet hour, or drive south to Porto Timoni and Agios Georgios Pagon for wilder, calmer water. For pebble coves with clear sea and a quieter evening, the northeast around Kassiopi is the better couples coast.
