Sora arrived on Glyfada styling itself as the first club of its kind on Corfu, a reserved run of daybeds on the island’s most famous blue flag sand, pitched somewhere between St Tropez and a Miami lounge. The club belongs to the five star resort directly behind the bay, which explains its temperament: anticipatory service, a serious seafood and Mediterranean kitchen, wellness treatments on the sand, even childcare, all aimed at couples and families who want the beach handled for them.

Understand what Sora is selling and the day makes sense. It is not selling a scene, it is selling the removal of every small friction between you and the water: the bed is reserved before you arrive, the glass refills without a wave of the hand, lunch happens at the mattress, and if you brought children there is somewhere for them to be while you close your eyes. The crowd is quieter money, hotel guests from the slope above mixed with Corfiots who treat a Sora day as an occasion, and the soundtrack is kept low enough that you hear the Ionian more than the playlist.

For a couple, the hour matters more than the bed you pick. Mornings belong partly to families, that is baked into a club that advertises childcare, so the intimate hours are the edges. Better still, hold the bed to the end: Glyfada points due west with nothing but open sea to the horizon, and that final hour, rose down to its last third, sky going copper behind the cliffs, is the most romantic club moment we can point to on Corfu.

The shortfalls are honest ones. Glyfada beds run the highest on Corfu even outside the club, and Sora sits at the top of that market without publishing a number, which makes the enquiry step unavoidable. The west coast also catches wind some afternoons, and when it does the sea turns to surf and the beds lose their stillness. Anyone chasing a party will find the restraint frustrating, that energy lives further along this sand at Pazuzu, not here.

Glyfada is a long, wide band of golden sand pinned between pine covered cliffs, and it is busy for good reason: the water is clear, the entry is sandy, and the sunset is unobstructed. The club occupies its reserved slice, but the free public stretch, the tavernas, the watersports rigs and the mini markets carry on either side, so nobody needs a package to enjoy this bay. The drive from Corfu Town takes around half an hour for 16 kilometres, and the final descent below Pelekas is steep and winding with views that excuse it. Paid car parks sit right behind the sand. Without a car, the green bus line toward Glyfada runs from Corfu Town in season, more frequently at the height of summer, so a carless couple staying in town can still make the sunset and get home.
