Riaci Beach
Best for. Couples who want the colour of Capo Vaticano with a touch more room, where sandstone stacks and sea caves frame a long stretch of turquoise water.
Best spot. Walk to the quieter southern end below the rocks for an early swim, then take the caves at the headland when the light turns warm in the late afternoon.
Know this. Riaci is calmer than Tropea but it still fills in August, and parking can cost, so the romance lives at either soft end of the day or in the shoulder season.
Riaci is the cove people drive past on the way to Capo Vaticano and then wish they had stopped at. It sits just to the north, a long sweep of pale sand strung with sandstone stacks and pocked with small sea caves, and the water in front of it runs the same impossible turquoise that the Coast of the Gods is famous for. There is more room here than on the postage stamp of sand at Tropea, which is exactly what makes it work for two. You can find a patch of your own, swim out toward the rocks, and feel like the day belongs to you.
What gives Riaci its romance is the texture of the place. The caves and the carved stone at the headland turn an ordinary swim into a small adventure, and the light in the late afternoon throws gold across the cliffs behind the beach. A couple can spend a slow morning on the sand, drift through the caves with a mask, then take a lounger and a cold drink at the lido when the sun is high. The free stretches and the paid shade sit side by side, so you choose the day you want without committing to either.
The honest catch is the one that follows every beautiful Calabrian cove. In July and August the sand fills through the middle of the day and the parking near the beach can carry a charge, so the open, unhurried Riaci is a creature of the early morning and the last hours before sunset. Come at opening with a coffee, or arrive in the late afternoon as the families pack up, and you get the version worth the detour. In June or September it is quieter still, and the water is just as warm.
Clubs on this beach
Riaci runs on the lido rather than the glamorous club, which suits a cove like this. One concession works the sand with sunbeds, shade and a kitchen, and free stretches sit on either side. Day rates and any minimum spend move with the season, so ask the venue when you enquire.
Lido Arcobaleno Riaci
A seasonal lido on the Riaci sand with sunbeds, parasols and a bar and kitchen, open to the free beach alongside. The easy pick for a shaded row and a long lunch by the water. Day rate and any minimum spend to be confirmed.
Coast of the Gods, Calabria
Riaci lies on the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria below the village of Santa Domenica di Ricadi, on the stretch known as the Coast of the Gods. The nearest airport is Lamezia Terme, a little over an hour to the north by car, and Ricadi has a small station on the coastal railway a short drive inland from the beach.
Access is by car down toward the shore, with municipal and private parking near the sand. Arrive before mid morning in high summer for both a space and an unhurried cove, and bring water, a mask and a little cash, since the lido and the free stretches both fill as the day warms.

Common questions about Riaci Beach
Is Riaci beach good for couples?
Yes, it is one of the more romantic coves on the Coast of the Gods. The long sand, the sea caves and the turquoise water give two people room to themselves in a way the small Tropea beach cannot, and the late afternoon light is lovely. Come early or stay for golden hour for the quiet version.
Is Riaci beach free?
Yes, there are free public stretches alongside a lido that rents sunbeds and shade. You can lay a towel for nothing on the open sand, or pay for a lounger and a kitchen close by. Bring water and a little cash and you have both options.
How do you get to Riaci beach?
Riaci sits below Santa Domenica di Ricadi on the Coast of the Gods, reached by car with municipal and private parking near the sand. Lamezia Terme airport is a little over an hour north. In high summer the closer parking fills early, so arrive before mid morning.
Are there really caves at Riaci?
Yes, the headland and the sandstone stacks hold small sea caves and carved hollows that you can swim and wade around. A mask makes them far more rewarding, and water shoes help over the rocky patches. Read the sea before exploring, as conditions are typical rather than guaranteed.
When is the best time to visit Riaci?
June and September give warm water and soft light without the deepest August crowds. In July and August come at opening or in the late afternoon, when the sand and the parking ease. Treat the sea as unsupervised and stay near the shore.
