Canggu

The clearest pick for a solo beach trip, a Bali surf town that has become the coworking and digital nomad capital of Southeast Asia, where the cafes, hostels and surf schools are built around meeting people. Batu Bolong beach offers cheap, friendly surf lessons, and the social scene does the introductions for you within a day. It is reached by a transfer from Denpasar airport. The beaches are good rather than pristine and the traffic is real. Come for the surf, the scene and the ease of landing on your feet alone.

Koh Tao

The cheapest place in the world to learn to scuba dive, which makes it one of the easiest islands to arrive at alone, since the open water course puts you in a small group for days and you leave with friends. The base is sociable Sairee beach, walkable and lined with bars and dive schools. You reach it only by ferry from Koh Samui, Koh Phangan or Chumphon. Lagos

The most reassuring pick in Europe, a walkable old town on the Algarve coast with golden cliffs, a string of beautiful cove beaches and one of the safest, most established solo scenes on the continent. The fastest way to land on your feet alone is to book an activity for your first day or two.
