Alanya sits on a great rock headland crowned by its castle, and that geography decides where the sunset works. West of the rock the coast opens to the evening sun and the light pours along the bay, while the harbour side to the east turns its back on it and gets only the warm afterglow. Stand in the right place and you watch the disc sink into the Mediterranean with the castle in silhouette. Stand in the wrong one and you wonder where the famous sunset went.

We have ranked the beaches by where the light actually lands, from the headline view over Cleopatra to the calm pine backed sands further west, and we have been honest about the spot that photographs well but faces the wrong way. As a naturalist I would always take the quiet pines of Incekum over a packed promenade, and I will tell you why.

The short version. Cleopatra owns the classic sunset under the castle, Incekum and the western beaches give you the same light with room to breathe, and the harbour and marina are for the afterglow and the lights rather than the sun itself.

The best sunset beaches

Matched to whether you want the view or the quiet.

01
Town centre, west bay

Cleopatra Beach

The classic Alanya sunset, the long sweep of pale sand on the western bay where the sun drops over the sea with the great castle headland rising in silhouette to one side. It is the headline view for good reason, though in high summer you share it with a crowded promenade, so come for the shoulder months or walk west along the sand for room. The best mix of scenery and ease in town.

02
Avsallar, west

Incekum Beach

The naturalist pick for the evening, a long stretch of soft sand west of town backed by a real pine forest, where the open western horizon gives a clean sea sunset and the resinous air and shade make the wait a pleasure. Far from the central crush, it is the calmest, greenest place to watch the light go, and the shallow water glows as the sun drops. The one to choose for quiet over spectacle.

03
Town centre

Damlatas Beach

The compact central beach beside the Damlatas cave at the foot of the headland, sharing the same fine sand and western outlook as neighbouring Cleopatra with everything in town on its doorstep. It is small and busy, so it works best as an easy sunset wrapped around a day of sights rather than a long evening, but the light over the bay is the same and the convenience is unbeatable. Central to a fault.

04
West, resort strip

Konakli Beach

A long resort beach west of town with a wide open western horizon, so the sunset here is uninterrupted sea and sky without the headland in the frame. It is functional and family friendly rather than scenic, lined with hotels, but for a simple, unobstructed sundown near the western resorts it does the job well. Choose it for the open view and the easy convenience rather than for character.

05
Avsallar, west

Avsallar Beach

A quieter beach in the same western stretch near Incekum, away from the centre and its crowds, with the clean open horizon that gives the west coast its evening light. The pace is slow and the sunset is yours rather than a promenade event, which makes it a fine choice for a calm sundowner. Facilities are simpler out here, so come prepared and stay for the dark sky after the sun goes.

The honest read

The honest read on the light

The single thing to understand is that the castle headland sets the rules. Alanya faces broadly south, but the great rock and castle sit to the east of the town beaches, so the western bay opens to the evening sun while the harbour side is shaded from it. That is why Cleopatra and the western sands get the real sunsets and the marina gets the afterglow. Pick your beach by which side of the rock you are on and the rest follows.

For the headline view it is Cleopatra, with the castle in silhouette as the sun drops over the bay, busy in summer and best in the shoulder months or a walk west along the sand. For the same light with calm and shade it is Incekum and the western beaches, where the pine forest and open horizon make the better evening for anyone who prefers nature to a crowd. The light, the timing and the haze vary day to day, so treat conditions as typical only and never guaranteed.

The overrated spot is the harbour and marina at sunset. It is pretty with the boats and the lights, and many visitors gather there expecting the show, but it faces the wrong way for the sun itself and gives you glow rather than the disc. If it is the sinking sun you want, keep to the west bay. If it is the lit harbour and a drink you are after, the marina is lovely for that instead, just know the difference before you choose.

Beach clubs and the sundowner

Browse Alanya beach clubs

A beach club here earns its keep at the end of the day, a lounger turned to the west, a cold drink and the light going down over the bay, mostly along Cleopatra and the western sands where the sun actually sets. The quieter pine beaches keep it to a simple cafe, which suits the calm. We never invent a venue, a line up or a minimum spend, so unconfirmed details are marked to be confirmed. Browse the directory and send one enquiry to lock your sunset table.

Good questions

Before you go

Where is the best sunset in Alanya?

Cleopatra Beach on the western bay. The sun drops over the sea with the great castle headland rising in silhouette beside it, the classic Alanya view. For the same light with far fewer people, the western beaches near Avsallar, Incekum especially, give a clean open sea sunset backed by pine forest. Keep to the west side of the castle rock, which is the side that faces the evening sun.

Can you watch the sunset from Alanya harbour?

You can, and the lit boats and marina are pretty, but it faces the wrong way for the sun itself. The castle headland shades the harbour side from the western light, so you get the warm afterglow rather than the sinking disc. For the actual sunset over the sea, head to Cleopatra or the western beaches. For a drink by the lit harbour after dark, the marina is lovely in its own right.

Which beach is best for a quiet sunset?

Incekum, west of town near Avsallar. A long soft sand beach backed by a real pine forest with an open western horizon, far from the central crowds, where the evening light is clean and the air is calm. Avsallar beach nearby is quieter still. Both give you the west coast sunset without the packed promenade of Cleopatra, which is why a naturalist would choose them.

What time is sunset in Alanya?

It shifts through the year, roughly early evening in winter and well into the late evening at the height of summer, so check the date of your visit for the exact time. Aim to be in place around half an hour before, with a clear western horizon, and stay a while after the sun goes for the afterglow. Haze and conditions vary day to day, so treat any forecast as typical only.

Are there beach clubs for sunset in Alanya?

Yes, mostly along Cleopatra and the western sands where the sun actually sets, running loungers and a bar into the evening. Names, opening status and any minimum spend change over time, so we mark those details as to be confirmed and suggest checking the current picture before you go. Browse our directory and send one enquiry to confirm your date and a table for the sundowner.
