Siargao is famous as a surf island, and that shapes where the white sand actually is. The shore most visitors first meet, around General Luna and the Cloud 9 reef, is a working, surfy coast of boats, seagrass and boardwalks rather than the powdery white sand people picture from the photos. The truly pale, fine sand of Siargao sits offshore, on the little sandbars and palm islets you reach by boat, and up on the quieter north coast you reach by road.

Naked Island
A pure white sandbar with literally nothing on it, no trees, no buildings, just a strip of pale fine sand ringed by turquoise shallows. It is the whitest sand on the whole island hop and the most photogenic, but there is zero shade, so bring sun cover, water and a shelter, and go on a calm sea day.
Daku Island
The largest of the three hopping islands, with a long curve of white sand, real palm trees for shade and simple cottages where the boat crews cook a seafood lunch. It is the most comfortable of the sandbars for a family day, with room to swim, eat and shelter from the sun in one place.
Guyam Island
A tiny palm crowned islet of white sand and coral rock, the classic castaway dot on the horizon. The sand is pale and the water clear, and the rocky edges are good for a snorkel, though it is small and gets busy when several boats land at once. Lovely early or late in the day.
Pacifico
The whitest long beach you can reach by land, a quiet stretch of pale sand near the village of San Isidro about an hour north of General Luna. It has a gentle, laid back feel, room to walk and far fewer people than the town beaches, with a mellow surf break offshore for those who want it.
Alegria
A long, wild, light coloured beach on the north tip of the island, backed by low dunes and greenery and almost always empty. It is more raw and open than the sandbars, better for a long barefoot walk than a sheltered swim, and it rewards the drive north with space and quiet you will not find near town.
The surf town is not the white sand
Here is the thing people wish they had known. Cloud 9, the beach every first timer heads to, is a surf reef with a boardwalk out over the water, not a white sand swimming beach, and the General Luna town shore is a busy working beachfront of boats, seagrass and resort frontage. Both are worth seeing, but neither is the powdery white sand of the postcards, and turning up expecting one is the classic Siargao letdown.
The white sand is on the boat and on the road. The island hopping trip to Naked, Daku and Guyam is the single best way to stand on pale, fine sand ringed by clear water, and a drive north to Pacifico and Alegria gives you long, light coloured, empty beaches. Plan for one of those and the island delivers exactly the sand you came for.
Come prepared for the sun, because the purest sandbars have the least shade. Naked Island has no trees at all, so a beach shelter, sun cover and plenty of water are not optional, and there are no lifeguards on any of these spots.
