Agios Georgios is what Perissa and Perivolos look like before the umbrellas thin out. It is the southern continuation of the same long black sand strip on the southeast coast, and most visitors never walk this far, which is exactly the appeal. The sand is the familiar dark volcanic grit, the water is clear and open, and the crowd is a fraction of what you find at the busier middle of the run.
Because it is part of an organised stretch, you still get the comforts. There are sunbeds and umbrellas for hire, a scattering of beach bars and tavernas, and a good spread of watersports operators offering jet skis, windsurfing and the usual towables. It manages to feel relaxed without feeling remote, which is a hard balance to strike on this coast.
The black sand here gets genuinely hot underfoot on a high summer afternoon, so sandals are not optional, and the dark grain holds the heat long after the sun has dipped. The seabed shelves away fairly quickly, so it suits confident swimmers more than toddlers, and like the rest of the southeast coast it can pick up chop when the wind swings around to the south.
Who it suits: sunbathers who want space, watersports fans, and anyone who likes the Perissa to Perivolos vibe but wants to escape the thickest part of the crowd without leaving the comforts behind.
Who should skip it: families with very small children who want shallow calm water will be happier at Monolithos near the airport, and anyone chasing a lively bar scene should stay up at the Perivolos end where the daybeds and music are concentrated.

Agios Georgios is a sunbed, beach bar and watersports beach rather than a club destination, and we will not dress it up as more. You will find umbrellas to hire, casual bars and tavernas and a strip of watersports operators, while the louder daybed scene sits a little north toward Perivolos. Agios Georgios Beach, Santorini
Agios Georgios sits at the southern end of the long southeast beach run, roughly 25 minutes by car from Fira through Emporio and Perivolos. There is roadside parking behind the beach and a seasonal bus that serves the Perissa to Perivolos corridor, from which it is a short walk south. A car or scooter is the most flexible way to reach this quieter end.
- Drive or scooter for the easiest access, as the bus drops you a walk north of the quiet end.
- Pack sandals for the hot black sand and water shoes for the gravelly entry.
- Bring shade if you are not hiring an umbrella, as natural shade is scarce.

Agios Georgios Beach questions
Is Agios Georgios the same as Perivolos beach?
It is the same continuous strip of black sand, simply farther south. Perissa runs into Perivolos which runs into Agios Georgios, and the main difference is that the southern Agios Georgios end is quieter and a little less developed.
Is Agios Georgios good for watersports?
Yes, this stretch is one of the better spots on the island for it. Several operators along the beach offer jet skis, windsurfing and towables, and the open water and reliable summer breeze suit them well.
Is there a beach club at Agios Georgios?
There are casual beach bars, tavernas and sunbed hire rather than a single big club. For the more concentrated daybed and music scene, walk or drive north toward the Perivolos end of the strip.
Is Agios Georgios beach good for families?
It works for families with older children who can handle the quick drop to depth, but the dark sand gets hot and the entry is gravelly. Families with toddlers will find calmer shallow water at Monolithos near the airport.
How do you get to Agios Georgios beach?
It is about 25 minutes by car from Fira through Perivolos, with roadside parking behind the beach. The seasonal bus serves the Perissa to Perivolos corridor, leaving a short walk south to the quieter Agios Georgios end.
