Mamitas is the beach people picture when they imagine a day out in Playa del Carmen. A short walk from Fifth Avenue around Calle 28, it is the centre of the town beach club scene, where loungers, day beds, pools and music run right down to clear Caribbean water. If you want company, service and a social buzz, this is the stretch.
The clubs define the experience. Mamitas Beach Club gives the beach its name and runs a long, well equipped frontage with a pool and restaurant, while Martina Beach Club up toward the Coco Beach end leans into a higher energy, party leaning crowd. Each works on a minimum spend, so you trade an open budget for shade, a daybed and table service on the sand.
None of that closes the beach. The sand itself is public, and so is the sea, so you can lay a towel between the club zones and swim for nothing if you would rather not spend. The water is usually pleasant for a dip, clear and moderate, with a little surge on breezier days, though the atmosphere is firmly lively rather than tranquil.
Come to Mamitas for a full club day with music, food and a swim, and book ahead in high season when the best beds go early. For a calmer, free local beach nearby try Punta Esmeralda, for a quieter wide stretch head to Playacar, and for verified clubs, minimum spend bands and current status use our Riviera Maya beach clubs directory.
Mamitas is a club led beach, and we report venues factually and never invent prices, amenities or status. Minimum spends and opening status change, so we confirm them with the venue and mark anything uncertain as to be confirmed. For the full picture, use the Riviera Maya beach clubs directory.

Mamitas Beach sits at the seaward end of Calle 28 in central Playa del Carmen, a couple of blocks from Fifth Avenue and an easy walk from most of the town centre. Taxis and the highway are close by, and the beach clubs are signposted from the street.
For a club day, booking a daybed ahead is wise in high season. If you plan to use the free public sand, bring your own shade and water, check the posted flag before swimming, and keep clear of any marked lanes for watercraft.

The beach and the sea are public, so you can lay a towel and swim for nothing. The catch is that the prime loungers, shade and service belong to beach clubs that work on a minimum spend, so a comfortable club day does carry a cost.
Mamitas Beach Club, which gives the beach its name, and Martina Beach Club toward the Coco Beach end are the best known. Others operate along the sand too. Minimum spends and status change, so we confirm them with each venue.
Usually yes. The water is clear and generally swimmable, with some surge on breezier days. It is more a place to cool off between loungers than a calm swimming bay, so check the flag and your depth before going in.
It leans social and lively rather than tranquil, with music, pools and a club crowd, and Martina in particular draws a party leaning scene. For a calmer day, nearby Punta Esmeralda and Playacar are much quieter.
In high season it is wise, since the best beds fill early, especially around the holidays. Outside the busiest weeks you can often walk in, but booking ahead secures shade and a spot on the water.
