Tsambika Beach
Best for. Families and sunbathers who want a big sweep of soft sand and shallow warm water, with sunbeds, snacks and water sports all on tap.
Best spot. The wide central stretch where the sand is deepest and the water shelves slowly, with the monastery hill rising green behind you.
Know this. It is one of the busiest beaches on Rhodes in peak season, so the loungers pack tight by late morning. The far ends stay calmer.
Tsambika is the postcard beach of the Rhodes east coast, a long clean arc of golden sand laid out below the green hill that carries the little monastery of the same name. The water is shallow, warm and an easy turquoise, the sand is soft underfoot, and the whole bay faces the morning sun. For a family who wants space to spread out, a paddle that stays knee deep for ages and a snack bar never far away, it is close to the platonic ideal of a Greek resort beach. The hill behind, with its famous climb of stone steps to the chapel, gives the view its drama.
Because the sand runs for the best part of a kilometre, Tsambika absorbs a lot of people before it feels truly full, and there is room for sunbed rows, water sports zones and quieter patches all at once. Pedalos, jet skis and inflatables operate from the central section, beach bars keep the drinks coming, and the gentle entry makes it genuinely reassuring for small children. If you simply want to lie on good sand, swim in calm water and let the day drift, this delivers without fuss.
The honest read is that Tsambika is no secret and never feels remote. In July and August the central section fills with loungers by late morning, the car park works hard, and the buzz of water sports is part of the soundtrack rather than a distant hum. The sand is so wide that it rarely feels unbearable, but anyone after a wild or quiet shore should look elsewhere on the island. Walk toward either end and you trade some service for noticeably more space. For peace, come in June or September, or arrive early and claim the morning before the coaches roll in.
Beach bars on the sand
Tsambika is an organised public beach with sunbed concessions and beach bars rather than a single named club. For a dressed up club day with daybeds and music, the beaches closer to Rhodes town and Faliraki offer more. Use the Rhodes beach clubs guide and keep Tsambika for the long sandy family day.
Sunbed concessions and bars
Several sunbed and umbrella concessions with beach bars along the front. There is no single branded club, and operator details are to be confirmed locally.
East coast, below the monastery
Tsambika sits on the east coast of Rhodes between Kolymbia and Archangelos, around forty minutes by car south of Rhodes town. A side road drops from the main coastal road down to the beach, where there is a large car park behind the sand. The turning for the monastery climb is on the same stretch of main road just above.
Buses on the east coast route between Rhodes town and the southern villages stop on the main road near the turning, leaving a walk down to the beach. A car or a short taxi hop is the easiest way to arrive with beach gear and to time your visit around the crowds.

Common questions about Tsambika
Is Tsambika beach good for families?
Yes, it is one of the best family beaches on Rhodes. The sand is soft, the entry is gentle and the water stays shallow a long way out, which suits young children. Sunbeds, beach bars and toilets are on hand, though lifeguard cover is seasonal and not guaranteed, so always supervise your group.
How many steps are there up to Tsambika monastery?
The climb to the little monastery on the hill is around three hundred steps from the car park on the main road above the beach. It is steep in the heat but short, and the view over the long golden bay from the top is one of the finest on the east coast.
Is Tsambika beach crowded?
In July and August the central section fills with sunbeds by late morning and the car park is busy. The sand is wide enough that it rarely feels unbearable, and the ends are quieter. For more room, come in June or September or arrive early in the day.
Are there sunbeds and water sports at Tsambika?
Yes. Sunbed and umbrella hire runs along the front, with beach bars for drinks and snacks, and water sports such as pedalos and jet skis operate from the central section in summer. Prices and operating times are set locally and are to be confirmed when you visit.
How do you get to Tsambika beach?
Tsambika is on the east coast between Kolymbia and Archangelos, about forty minutes by car from Rhodes town. A side road leads down to a large car park behind the sand. East coast buses stop on the main road near the turning, leaving a short walk down to the beach.
