Golden Beach
Best for. Families who want space and gentle shallow water, and windsurfers who want one of the finest venues in the Cyclades, all on the same long sweep of sand.
Best spot. The northern end for the calmest swimming and the easiest shade, with the windsurf centres and the action kept down toward the southern stretch.
Know this. The Meltemi that makes this a world class board venue can chase loungers off the sand by afternoon, so treat a calm morning here as the prize and check the forecast.
Golden Beach, or Chrysi Akti, is the longest beach on Paros and the one that quietly does the most at once. A 700 metre run of soft golden sand on the southeast coast shelves gently into shallow clear water, which makes the northern half a generous, easy place for a family day, while the southern stretch has long been one of the finest windsurf venues in the Mediterranean. On a still morning it is simply a vast, handsome beach with room to spread out and a clean horizon.
The honest read is that this beach is governed by the wind. The Meltemi that draws the boards and the World Cup fleet is the same north wind that can sandblast a lounger and flatten an umbrella by early afternoon, so the experience swings with the forecast. The service here is straightforward rather than refined, organised sunbed sections and a few tavernas rather than a polished club, and in peak August it can feel busy and functional. None of that is a flaw, it is simply what a working windsurf beach is, and knowing it lets you time your day well.
Come on a calm morning, take the quieter northern end, and Golden Beach is the easy, spacious family swim of the island. Come on a blowing afternoon and you are better moving to the shelter of Faragas in the south or the protected Naoussa coves, leaving the sand to the sailors who came precisely for the wind. For the most reliable breeze and the kite spectacle, New Golden Beach next door is windier still. The smart play is to read the forecast the night before and treat a windless morning as the gift it is.
A windsurf beach, not a club
Golden Beach runs on organised sunbed sections, tavernas and well known surf centres rather than a single dressed up club. For a polished club day, see the Paros beach clubs guide.

Golden Beach is a long public sweep with organised sunbed and umbrella sections, a few honest tavernas and respected windsurf and kitesurf schools rather than one named club. It is set up for space and watersports, not bottle service. For a refined club day with full service, scenic Monastiri or design led Faragas are the island picks. Prices and opening times are set locally and to be confirmed.
On the southeast coast near Drios
Golden Beach sits on the southeast coast near Drios, about twenty minutes by car from Parikia and the airport and roughly twenty five to thirty minutes from Naoussa. A summer bus serves the southeast beaches, and the road is easy, so a hire car or scooter is the simplest way to arrive and to move on if the wind turns.
There is parking behind the sand that fills in peak season, so come earlier for both a space and the calmer water. Natural shade is limited, so bring or hire an umbrella, carry water, and if you plan to windsurf the centres on the beach rent kit and give lessons through the season.

Common questions about Golden Beach
Why is Golden Beach Paros famous?
It is the longest beach on Paros, a 700 metre Blue Flag sweep of golden sand on the southeast coast, and one of the most respected windsurf venues in the Mediterranean. The gently shelving shallow water makes it good for families, while the reliable Meltemi wind has made it a regular World Cup windsurfing host.
Is Golden Beach good for families?
On a calm day yes, especially at the northern end, where the sand is wide and the water shallow and gentle for a long way out. The caveat is the wind, since the same exposure that suits the boards can bring an afternoon breeze, so families do best on a still morning and keep an umbrella for shade.
Can you windsurf at Golden Beach?
Yes, it is one of the island's premier windsurf and kitesurf venues, with established schools on the sand renting kit and giving lessons through the season. The Meltemi gives reliable wind in July and August in particular. Conditions vary by day, and prices and availability are set locally and to be confirmed.
How do you get to Golden Beach Paros?
It lies on the southeast coast near Drios, about twenty minutes by car from Parikia and the airport and roughly twenty five to thirty minutes from Naoussa. A summer bus serves the southeast beaches, and there is parking behind the sand that fills in peak season, so arriving early helps.
When is the best time to visit Golden Beach?
June and September give warm clear water with lighter winds and more room than the August peak, which is ideal for a calm lounging day. July and August are hottest and windiest, superb for the boards but breezier on the loungers. Mornings are calmer than afternoons. Conditions are typical rather than guaranteed.
