Belcekiz is the beach most people actually mean when they picture Oludeniz, the long open strand running along the front of the village. It is free, it is lively and it is right in the thick of the resort, with bars and restaurants steps from the shingle and the famous sight of paragliders drifting down off Babadag to land on the sand all day.
For value it is the headline of the whole bay. Unlike the paid lagoon, the beach is free public shingle, so you can spread a towel, watch the paragliders and swim without spending a thing. The beachfront bars will happily rent you a lounger and umbrella and expect a drink or a meal in return, which is the easy comfortable option, but it is genuinely optional here in a way it is not at the lagoon.
The honest catch is that Belcekiz is open sea, not the glassy lagoon, so expect waves, the odd lively afternoon and a shore of grey shingle rather than soft sand. Water shoes solve the shingle, and strong swimmers will love the clear refreshing water. If you want calm and warmth, the lagoon a short walk south is the trade, paid but sheltered.
The back of the beach is a row of independent bars and hotel clubs rather than one big venue. We describe the scene factually and route enquiries through our directory, and we never invent venues, charges or amenities.
A five star resort hotel on the Belcekiz seafront with its own beach setup, bars and restaurants, the comfortable serviced option in the heart of the village. Verdict: an easy all in one base if you want service on the lively side of the bay, so confirm day access, loungers and any spend directly.
A long standing beachfront institution at Oludeniz, open more than forty years, known for sea views, a broad menu and sunset cocktails above the sand. Verdict: the pick for a long lunch or a sundowner rather than a lounger day, so come for the food and the view and check current hours.
Belcekiz runs along the front of Oludeniz village, so if you are staying in the resort it is a short walk from almost anywhere. The dolmus minibus reaches Oludeniz from Fethiye in around half an hour and drops you near the seafront, which is far easier than parking in high summer when spaces near the beach are limited.
Bring water shoes for the shingle and plenty of sun cover, since natural shade is limited unless you hire an umbrella. To watch the paragliders at their best, look up through the afternoon when the Babadag flights come thick and fast, and if you want calmer warmer water, walk south to the lagoon.
Tell us your date and party and we will point you to the right beach club style venues at Oludeniz and the wider Fethiye coast, from the calm lagoon side to the lively open beach. No charge to enquire.
Yes, Belcekiz is free public shingle, which makes it the best value beach in Oludeniz. You can lay a towel, swim and watch the paragliders at no cost. The beachfront bars hire loungers and umbrellas and expect some custom, but a sunbed is optional here.
No, Belcekiz is a long beach of grey shingle and pebble rather than soft sand, so water shoes make a real difference walking in and out of the water. For the gentlest shore on the bay, the sand and shingle spit at the lagoon is a little softer.
The tandem paragliders that launch from Babadag mountain drift down and land on Belcekiz beach through the day, which is free to watch from the sand. The flights come thick and fast in the afternoon in good summer weather.
It depends on the day you want. Belcekiz is free, lively and open sea with waves, in the heart of the village. The lagoon is calmer, warmer and more sheltered but charges a small park fee. Families and nervous swimmers often prefer the lagoon, value seekers the free beach.
Yes, the water is clear and refreshing, though it is open sea so expect some waves and the odd current rather than the calm of the lagoon. Lifeguard cover is seasonal and not guaranteed, so swim within any marked areas and follow local advice.
