The verdict

  • Best for: Travellers who want a free beach in the middle of the action, with bars, food and watersports on the doorstep and the paragliders landing right in front of them.
  • Best spot: The free public shingle in front of the village for a no cost day, or a hired lounger at one of the beachfront bars if you want service, with the calm lagoon a short walk south.
  • Know this: Belcekiz is free and lively but it is open sea with waves and the shore is shingle rather than soft sand, so bring water shoes and expect a busy, sociable beach rather than a quiet one.

Sand
Shingle and pebble
Belcekiz is a long strand of grey shingle and pebble rather than soft sand, so water shoes make the walk in far more comfortable. Much of the front is lined with hired loungers, though the public shingle between them is free to use.
Water
Open sea, some waves
This is the open bay, so the water is clear but livelier than the lagoon and can pick up small waves and afternoon chop. It is refreshing for a swim and fine for strong swimmers, while the sheltered lagoon is the calm alternative. Conditions are typical and never guaranteed.
Entry
Free
The beach itself is free public shingle, which is the value headline of Oludeniz. The bars and clubs along the front hire loungers and umbrellas and expect some custom, with rates set by each venue and to be confirmed.
Facilities
Bars, watersports, paraglide landing
The village runs right to the back of the beach, so bars, restaurants, shops and watersports are all on the doorstep. This is the landing zone for the Babadag paragliders, which is free to watch from the sand.
Lifeguard
Seasonal, not guaranteed
Lifeguard cover is seasonal and not guaranteed, and the open water can have waves and the odd current, so swim within any marked areas and follow local advice. Conditions are typical and never guaranteed.
Best months
May to October
The warm season runs from late spring into autumn, busiest and liveliest in July and August. June and September keep the warm sea and the buzz with fewer crowds, the better value weeks.
The honest read

Belcekiz is the beach most people actually mean when they picture Oludeniz, the long open strand running along the front of the village. It is free, it is lively and it is right in the thick of the resort, with bars and restaurants steps from the shingle and the famous sight of paragliders drifting down off Babadag to land on the sand all day.

For value it is the headline of the whole bay. Unlike the paid lagoon, the beach is free public shingle, so you can spread a towel, watch the paragliders and swim without spending a thing. The beachfront bars will happily rent you a lounger and umbrella and expect a drink or a meal in return, which is the easy comfortable option, but it is genuinely optional here in a way it is not at the lagoon.

The honest catch is that Belcekiz is open sea, not the glassy lagoon, so expect waves, the odd lively afternoon and a shore of grey shingle rather than soft sand. Water shoes solve the shingle, and strong swimmers will love the clear refreshing water. If you want calm and warmth, the lagoon a short walk south is the trade, paid but sheltered.

Clubs near this beach

The back of the beach is a row of independent bars and hotel clubs rather than one big venue. We describe the scene factually and route enquiries through our directory, and we never invent venues, charges or amenities.

Buzz Beach Bar

A long standing beachfront institution at Oludeniz, open more than forty years, known for sea views, a broad menu and sunset cocktails above the sand. Verdict: the pick for a long lunch or a sundowner rather than a lounger day, so come for the food and the view and check current hours.

Getting there and essentials

Belcekiz runs along the front of Oludeniz village, so if you are staying in the resort it is a short walk from almost anywhere. The dolmus minibus reaches Oludeniz from Fethiye in around half an hour and drops you near the seafront, which is far easier than parking in high summer when spaces near the beach are limited.

Bring water shoes for the shingle and plenty of sun cover, since natural shade is limited unless you hire an umbrella. To watch the paragliders at their best, look up through the afternoon when the Babadag flights come thick and fast, and if you want calmer warmer water, walk south to the lagoon.
