Bar
Cocktails at the Agia Anna waterline since 1987, poured while the light goes gold.
The verdict
- Book ifYou want Agia Anna’s classic evening: an Old Fashioned or a Zombie on a soft couch a few steps from the water, in a bar that has been mixing on this spot since 1987
- Skip ifYou are after a daybed operation with lounger service through the afternoon, because this is a bar first and the listed high season hours start at 21:00
- One thing to knowIn midsummer the last of the light hangs over the bay past half eight, so the opening hour doubles as the sunset seat, and the couches at the front go first

Island Bar has held the same few metres of Agia Anna seafront since 1987, which on a Cycladic beach strip makes it practically a monument. The formula has not needed changing: a whitewashed terrace at the waterline near the little harbour, highchairs and deep couches under shade netting, and a cocktail list that treats the classics as a craft, with an Old Fashioned, a Zombie and a Margarita as the standing order and seasonal serves rotating around them. Guests on recent review platforms describe the drinks as works of art, and the sunset as the other half of the bill.
Within our Naxos club directory it fills a precise niche: not the daytime lounger scene, not the party machine, but the bar you walk to when the light starts to go. Nearly four decades of the same trade on the same sand is its own kind of quality evidence.

Thirty nine seasons at the waterline
Longevity like this is rare on Greek beach strips, where bars change name and concept with the lease. Island Bar predates almost everything around it, and it shows in the details that matter to a drinker: spirits poured from the premium shelf rather than the speed rail, fresh ingredients in season, and a list that would rather perfect a Zombie than chase whatever the harbour bars in town are lighting on fire this year. The room to ask for is no room at all, a couch at the front edge with the bay flat and pink in front of you.
The hour matters more here than at any daytime club we cover on the island. Arrive at opening in July or August and you buy the tail of the sunset, the harbour lights coming on and the first records played low; arrive at midnight and you find the other Island Bar, the one recent visitors rate among the best nights out on Naxos, with the terrace full and the music carrying to 04:00.
Where it falls short is the flip side of its trade. There is no published price list, so the bill asks a little trust, and anyone expecting a serviced lounger afternoon has the wrong address, since the listed hours belong to the night. It also sits on the busiest cove on the coast: in August the lane behind is a procession, and the party at the club end of Agia Anna can be audible when the wind sits wrong, or right, depending on your evening’s ambitions.
Agia Anna, beyond the couches

Photo: Serge Cottebrune via GoogleAgia Anna is the sociable heart of the southwest coast, a golden cove with a working fishing harbour at one end and a run of tavernas and bars behind the sand. The water shelves gently and the beach never quite empties, which is either its charm or its flaw depending on the week you want. Our full Agia Anna guide covers the swimming, the bus from town and the quieter sand within walking distance.
Finding it, booking it
Agia Anna sits about six kilometres south of Naxos Town, an easy run by the seasonal bus, a short taxi or a scooter, and the bar is on the waterline by the harbour end. For an ordinary evening you simply walk in, ideally before the light goes; for the front couches in August, earlier still. Private events, from weddings to anniversaries, are arranged directly with the bar, and the single suite upstairs is let by enquiry, so nothing here runs through a booking engine.
If you would rather send one message and have the evening handled, tell us your date, your party size and whether it is a special occasion below, and we will put the request to Island Bar and come back with what they can hold for you.

What drinkers ask us
What time does Island Bar in Naxos open?
Independent listings give high season hours of 21:00 to 04:00, and any daytime service is to be confirmed with the bar. In midsummer the Aegean light lingers past half eight, so the first hour of service still catches the afterglow over the bay before the music takes over.
Does Island Bar have sunbeds on Agia Anna?
It is a bar rather than a lounger operation. Seating runs to highchairs and soft couches by the water, and the sand in front is public beach, so any daytime bed arrangement is to be confirmed. If a full sunbed day is the goal, the beach has dedicated club operations a short walk along.
Can you hire Island Bar for a wedding or a birthday?
Yes. The bar takes private event bookings for weddings, birthdays and anniversaries, and a seafront venue that has run since 1987 brings a certain proof of competence to the job. Terms, capacity and pricing are arranged directly, so enquire well ahead for peak summer dates.
What is the suite at Island Bar Naxos?
The bar lets a single small suite within the building, pitched at couples, with a king size bed and a sea view over the Agia Anna harbour. Rates and availability are to be confirmed directly with the bar, and light sleepers should weigh the high season hours below before booking the room above a cocktail bar.
What cocktails is Island Bar known for?
The classics, done without shortcuts. The list leans on an Old Fashioned, a Zombie and a Margarita alongside seasonal serves that change through the year, built on premium spirits and fresh ingredients. Exact prices are not published, so treat the list as mid priced for Agia Anna and confirm on the night.
