Elia is the answer for anyone who loves the south coast water but not the south coast crush. It is the longest beach on Mykonos, a generous southeast facing stretch of soft sand that is fully organised with sunbeds and tavernas, yet has enough length that it rarely feels as packed as Paradise or Platis Gialos.
The water is calm and clear, the bay is sheltered from much of the meltemi wind, and there is a watersports outfit for those who want to do more than float. The far end has a long standing reputation as a relaxed, clothing optional and inclusive stretch, while the main beach is an easy, mixed scene of couples, families and sunbathers.
What you do not get here is a famous club or a party. That is the point. Elia is where you come to actually use the beach, swim properly, eat a long lunch at one of the tavernas and let the afternoon drift. It is one of the most reliably pleasant beach days on the island.
Who it suits: couples and families who want space and calm, swimmers who want clear sheltered water, and anyone who likes the idea of the south coast without the noise.
Who should skip it: party seekers should stay west at Paradise and Super Paradise, and anyone chasing a wild, undeveloped cove should head to Fokos or Kalo Livadi nearby for something quieter still.
Beach clubs near Elia Beach
Elia is a beach for swimming and long lunches rather than a club beach, and we will not pretend otherwise. You will find organised sunbeds, good tavernas and a watersports outfit, but the daybed and party scene sits back west at Paradise, Super Paradise and Paraga. For the current island lineup and to send an enquiry, use our Mykonos beach club directory.
Elia Beach, Mykonos
Elia sits on the southeast coast about fifteen to twenty minutes from Mykonos town, with buses in season, a car park behind the beach and the southern taxi boats running here as the far stop on the loop. The road in is straightforward, and the long beach means parking and sunbed space are usually easier to find than on the crowded south coast coves.
- Walk the length of the beach to find a quieter section if the centre is busy.
- Take the taxi boat from Platis Gialos for a relaxed arrival along the coast.
- Bring shade and water, as the long open beach has little natural cover.

Elia Beach questions
Is Elia the best beach in Mykonos?
It is one of the most reliably pleasant. As the longest beach on the island it offers space, calm clear water and good tavernas without the party noise, which makes it a favourite for couples and families who want to actually swim and relax.
Is Elia Beach good for swimming?
Yes. The southeast facing bay is calm and clear, sheltered from much of the meltemi wind, with a gentle entry. It is one of the easier and more comfortable beaches on the island for a proper swim.
Is there a party at Elia Beach?
No. Elia is organised but relaxed, with sunbeds, tavernas and watersports rather than a club scene. For the party, the beaches back west at Paradise, Super Paradise and Paraga are the places to go.
How do you get to Elia Beach?
Elia is a fifteen to twenty minute drive from Mykonos town with buses and a car park, and the southern taxi boats run here as the far stop on the south coast loop from Platis Gialos.
Is Elia Beach crowded?
It gets busy in high summer, but because it is the longest beach on Mykonos there is usually more room to spread out than on the smaller south coast coves. Walk along the sand and you can still find a quieter spot.
