Mhares is one of the rare Mallorca clubs that puts its prices in plain sight, which makes the value question refreshingly easy to answer. It sits on a low cliff inside a protected marine reserve on the Bay of Palma, a former sandstone quarry above Cala Blava turned into a pool, a run of sun terraces and a restaurant, about twenty minutes south of the city. There is no sand at all here. What you are paying for is a calm, grown up perch over clear water and, above everything else, a sunset the island rates among its finest.

Reading it against the Mallorca club directory, this is unambiguously a premium address rather than a budget one, and pretending otherwise would waste your time. The honest job of this page is to say exactly what the money buys and where a careful spender should draw the line, because the difference between a memorable evening and an overpriced afternoon here comes down to which door you walk in through and at what hour.

Take the sunbed maths first, because it decides the day. A pool or Relax zone bed at 72.50 euros a head is the entry rung, and for two people that is 145 euros before a drink is poured. Step up to a sea facing Sea Vibes lounger or a front Relax spot and it is 190 euros for the pair, while a Balinese bed for three lands at 315 euros. The Balinese is the one that quietly makes sense on value, since it folds in towels, a welcome drink, a smoothie and, crucially, a guaranteed parking space that you would otherwise be hunting for. Split three ways with the extras counted, it undercuts the per person maths of two sea view loungers.

What that money buys is genuinely good, and worth naming plainly. The water sits inside a marine reserve where boats cannot anchor, so it stays clear, and a path drops to natural rock pools and a private jetty for a proper swim. The kitchen is a real one, running Mediterranean and Mallorcan plates from tuna tartare and ceviche to paella and char grilled octopus, and the sunset is the headline the whole place is built around. Twice a week a DJ plays, Thursdays bring a musical dinner, and the Sunday Adios Sol session scores the sundown from about half past six. This is a calm, adult club, not a party.

Where a value eye should hold firm is the all day lounger for anyone not sold on the setting. If you are chasing a beach, this is the wrong postcode, because there is no beach to chase. And if the sunset is what you came for, you do not strictly need a 190 euro bed to see it, since a table or a spot at the bar for the Adios Sol hour delivers the same sky for the price of a Bellini. Book the bed for a slow full day by the pool, book the sunset session for the view, and do not confuse the two.

The stretch of coast below the club is the low limestone cliff of Cala Blava in the Puig de Ros urbanisation, a quiet residential run on the south shore of the Bay of Palma. It is a swimming coast rather than a sunbathing one, all rock ledges, small carved pools and deep clear water, which is precisely why a club was built here to sell the view and the swim rather than a beach. For actual sand and a free towel day, the long organised strand of Playa de Palma lies a short drive back towards the city, and it costs nothing to lay a towel there.

Mhares is about twenty minutes south of Palma in the Puig de Ros urbanisation near Cala Blava, and a car is the sensible way in, with an on site car park and a parking space bundled into some Balinese and lounger packages. There is no easy public transport to the door, so a taxi or hire car is the realistic choice. Everything, from sunbeds and Balinese beds to restaurant tables and the sunset sessions, is booked through the club’s own website, and the sought after slots go early in high summer.
