Pink Beach Komodo

Kanawa Island Beach

Kelor Island Beach
The postcard first stop, a small sweep of sand below a steep green cone that most people climb for the wide island view. The beach itself is pretty and the water clear, but the short hike is loose and sharp underfoot and the current off the point can be brisk, so it rewards the view more than a long swim.
Pantai Waecicu
The honest pick when you cannot face another boat day. A free, calm, shallow stretch a short hop from Labuan Bajo, with simple warungs, an easy paddle on a normal day and a long golden sunset over the harbour islands. It is no Komodo showpiece, but it is the gentlest, simplest beach afternoon in town.
Where the picture flatters, and where it does not
The gap to manage here is between the drone shot and the deck of a day boat. Padar Island is the image everyone arrives for, the three crescent bays seen from a ridge, and it is genuinely spectacular, but it is a viewpoint and a steep stepped climb rather than a beach, so go for the view at first light and do not expect a swim at the top. Pink Beach is the other headline, and the pink is real but subtle, a soft blush strongest at the waterline and in gentle light, easily missed under a hard midday sun and a crowd of boats. The fix for both is the oldest one there is. Be on the early boat.
Who should skip what? Taka Makassar, the tiny sandbar near Manta Point, is a beautiful photo and a fine snorkel but barely a beach, with no shade at all and a current that asks for confident swimmers, so weigh it for very young children. Long Beach and the more distant Komodo sands are long days on the water that reward keen snorkellers more than a family chasing an easy paddle. The stops that genuinely deliver a relaxed day are Kanawa, with its shallow shore reef and jetty, and Waecicu near town. Labuan Bajo runs on two seasons and the boats decide your timing.
