Krabi runs on a clear two season rhythm, and once you understand it the timing becomes easy. The water is warm in every month, so the temperature of the sea is never the question. What changes through the year is the rain and the swell, and with them the calm of the water and, crucially here, whether the longtail boats and island tours run at all. Because so many of Krabi's best beaches are reached only by boat, the state of the Andaman Sea matters more than it does in most beach destinations, and that makes the dry season the safe and obvious choice for a first visit.
We have set out the year below as a season grid and then as notes on the months that earn their place, so you can match your priorities to the calendar. If you want the classic Krabi beach holiday, with calm seas, clear skies and dependable boats to Railay and the islands, look to the dry season from November to April, with January and February the cool, dry standouts. If you want lower prices, lush green scenery and quiet sand, and you do not mind warm rain and the odd cancelled boat, the green months from May to October can still be lovely, especially in the mornings.
If you take one line from this page, take this one. For the best balance of calm clear water, reliable boats and pleasant heat, aim for January or February, accept that the New Year peak is busy and pricey, and treat the wettest stretch in September and October as a gamble worth taking only for the quiet and the savings.

When each month earns its place
January. The finest beach month on this coast, the cool, dry heart of the season, with calm Andaman seas, clear skies and boats running reliably to Railay and the islands. The water is at its clearest for snorkeling and the days are warm rather than punishing. It is peak season, so book ahead and expect company on the famous beaches, but for sheer dependability and the most romantic golden hours, nothing beats it.
February. Still firmly dry and calm, a touch hotter than January but with the same clear skies and settled sea, and often a little quieter once the New Year crowds thin. The longtails run, the island trips are at their best, and the sunsets over Ao Nang and the cliffs are reliable. One of the two strongest months to plan a Krabi beach trip around.
April. The last of the easy sun before the monsoon builds, and the hottest stretch of the year at around 35C, with the warmest sea. The Songkran water festival in mid April is a lively highlight and fills the towns, so expect a crowd and a soaking around then. Early April is still firmly dry and a smart, slightly quieter pick, while the final week or two can bring the first storms as the season turns.
October. The wettest month of the year and the one to approach with open eyes. The rain comes in heavy bursts, the Andaman Sea can turn rough enough to cancel the longtails and the island tours, and the water clouds after a downpour. The upside is real, with the lowest prices, the greenest landscape and the most space on the sand, and mornings are often fine, so it suits a flexible, budget minded traveller who plans beach time early and treats the boat days as a bonus.

Before you go
What is the best month for the beach in Krabi?
January and February are the finest, cooler and dry with calm Andaman seas, clear skies and reliable boats to Railay and the islands, and December and March either side are nearly as good. The whole dry season from November to April is the window to aim for. The green season from May to October brings warm rain and rougher seas, so it is cheaper and quieter but less dependable for the beaches and the boat trips.
When is the rainy season in Krabi?
The green season runs from roughly May to October, building to its wettest in September and October. The rain often comes as heavy bursts rather than all day drizzle, so bright mornings are common, but the southwest monsoon can also stir the Andaman Sea enough to cancel longtail boats and island tours. Conditions are typical rather than guaranteed, so keep beach and boat plans flexible in those months.
Is the sea warm in Krabi?
Always. The Andaman Sea here is warm year round, sitting around 28C to 30C in every month, so the water temperature is never the deciding factor. What changes is the calm and the clarity, with the dry season giving the stillest, clearest water and the best visibility for snorkeling, and the green season clouding it after heavy rain and rougher seas.
When is Krabi cheapest and least crowded?
The green season from May to October is the cheapest and quietest, with the lowest room rates and the most space on the sand, in exchange for the rain and the occasional cancelled boat. The peak and priciest weeks are December and January, especially the New Year period, so for a balance of decent weather and fewer crowds, look to late April, May or November.
Can you still visit Krabi in the green season?
Yes, and many do, for the low prices, the lush scenery and the quiet beaches. The catch is the weather, with warm rain most days and seas that can turn rough enough to stop the longtails, so the famous island trips become a gamble. Base yourself somewhere you can enjoy on a wet afternoon, plan beach time for the mornings, and treat the boat days as a bonus rather than a certainty.
