Klong Nin Beach

Klong Nin is Koh Lanta at its most relaxed, a long strip of soft golden sand on the west coast where the pace is slow, the bars are barefoot and the sunsets run long. It has grown up gently, without the high rise resorts of busier islands, so it keeps a mellow, low key feel that families and couples both settle into easily. For a beach day that asks nothing of you but a swim, a hammock and a sundowner, this is a lovely stretch.

The honest read is that the beach follows the seasons. In the dry season from about November to April, the water is usually calm and clear and the swimming is easy, especially toward the calmer southern end. When the southwest monsoon arrives from around May, the surf and currents build, some days are better for watching than swimming, and a few beach bars scale back. There are no lifeguards, so you read the water, watch children, and treat the calm as typical rather than guaranteed.

The evenings are the signature. Facing the Andaman Sea, Klong Nin catches long, glowing sunsets, and the beachfront bars set out cushions and lanterns for the show. For more of the same easy mood, Long Beach further north is livelier with more choice, while the quieter coves toward the south of the island feel wilder. Use Klong Nin for a slow swim, a beach bar dinner and a front row sunset, and pick your swimming spot and season with a little care.
