Mojito Beach Bar

Most beach bars settle on a specialty years after opening. Mojito put its whole identity in the name, planted itself in the middle of Antisamos in 2007, and has spent the seasons since working the theme, more than ten takes on the drink at last count, muddled a few steps from water so green it barely looks Ionian. That would be enough of a pitch on its own. What makes the place worth a full day is everything stacked around the glass: a lounge restaurant that treats its menu seriously, a boutique selling beachwear under its own house labels, massages offered on the pebbles, and a free car park big enough that arriving is never the hard part.

Kefalonia has no velvet rope scene and Mojito does not pretend to one. Start with the glass, because the bar does. Beyond the ten plus mojito variations the list runs through margaritas, caipirinhas, daiquiris and martinis, with local and international spirits behind them, and a local guide singles the cocktails out as the reason to cross the island. The kitchen holds its end up: Mediterranean plates with modern Greek elements, locally sourced ingredients the bar names as a point of pride, and grilled seafood as the anchor. This is a menu written for people who came for the day, breakfast early, a long lunch at the loungers, and something cold as the light softens over the hills.

The scene shifts gently rather than dramatically. Mornings belong to swimmers and coffee, afternoons to the massage table and slow orders on the decks, and on selected nights the tempo flips entirely, with beach parties and live music that local coverage flags as worth planning around. Between swims there is the Summer House boutique, stocked with pestemal towels, swimwear and the bar’s own house labels Para Todo and Ble, which makes forgetting your towel a solvable problem rather than a day ender. Weddings, baptisms and birthdays run here too, so a corner of the bay may be dressed for someone else’s big day.

The shortfalls are about information, not hospitality. Nothing about beds, hours or season dates is published anywhere we can verify, which makes planning a peak week visit an exercise in phoning ahead. The pebbles are beautiful and hard on bare feet in equal measure. And Antisamos is one of the most photographed bays on the island, so the middle of an August day brings crowds the morning never hinted at. Come early or come in shoulder season and the bay does the rest.

Antisamos is the argument for pebbles. The stones keep the water glassy where sand would cloud it, the hills behind are covered in cypress and oak rather than hotels, and the whole bay spreads across roughly 80 hectares of protected looking green. The bar sits mid bay at the end of the coastal road that climbs out of Sami, about 5 km of switchbacks with views that justify pulling over, and roughly 27 km from Argostoli across the island. The free parking area at the beach is genuinely large by Greek island standards, so a car or scooter is the easy answer, with taxis from Sami port a short hop for ferry arrivals.
