Ibiza's reputation is all clubs and party beaches, and that side of the island is real, but it is only half the story. Away from the headline names sits a string of sheltered coves with clear, shallow, gently shelving water that work beautifully for families, many of them ringed by pines and backed by simple beach restaurants. The trick is knowing which bays to choose and which famous beaches to leave for the adults.
We have ranked the beaches below for the things that matter on a family day. Calm, shallow entry, clear water for snorkelling, sunbeds and shade, food within reach and easy parking or a short boat hop. The west and east coast coves do this best, while the long party strips, however famous, are no place for a toddler once the music and the crowds build through the day.
If you take one line from this page, take this one. Base your family days on the calm west coast coves such as Cala Bassa and the sheltered resort bays at Cala Llonga and Santa Eulalia, treat Playa den Bossa and the club beaches as adult outings, and arrive early in summer because the best family bays fill and the car parks overflow.
The family beaches worth your day
Calm shallows and easy services first.
Cala Bassa
The clearest family choice on the island. A sheltered west coast bay with strikingly clear, shallow water, soft white sand and a backdrop of pines, plus sunbeds, a beach club and restaurants on hand. The calm shallows are ideal for children, and a boat from Sant Antoni makes the trip part of the fun.
Cala Llonga
A long, deep, sheltered bay between wooded headlands with calm, shallow water and a full resort behind it. The gentle shelving sand, the family hotels and the easy services make it one of the most reassuring beaches on the island for young children, with everything you need within a short, flat walk.
Santa Eulalia
The calm town beach of Ibiza's most family friendly resort, with sheltered shallow water, a long palm lined promenade and restaurants, shops and a marina all on the doorstep. It is more about convenience and ease than wild beauty, which is exactly what makes it work so well for a relaxed family base.
Cala Tarida
A wide, sandy west coast bay with shallow, clear water and a gentle slope that suits paddling children, backed by sunbeds, restaurants and resort services. It is larger and more open than the tighter coves nearby, so there is room to spread out, and the calm shallows make for easy, worry light swimming.
Portinatx
A cluster of small, sheltered sandy bays on the quieter north coast, with calm, shallow, clear water and a low key family resort feel. It is a gentle, slower paced corner of the island away from the southern crowds, with safe paddling shallows and easy services that suit families with younger children.
The honest read for families
The party reputation is the thing to plan around, not to fear. Ibiza absolutely has its club beaches, but they are concentrated and easy to avoid. Playa den Bossa is long and sandy and tempting on a map, but it is the island's party strip, lined with clubs and bars that build through the day, so it is an adult outing rather than a family beach. Es Cavallet, beautiful as it is, is also known as a clothing optional and lively beach, so we steer families elsewhere.
Choose your coast by the wind and the crowd. The west coast coves such as Cala Bassa and Cala Comte have the clearest water and the best sunsets, but they get busy and the car parks fill fast in summer, so arrive early. The east coast bays at Cala Llonga and Santa Eulalia are the most sheltered and the most set up for families, with resort services that make a day with children simple.
The coves solve most of the problems. The sheltered bays give you calm, shallow, clear water for paddling and snorkelling, sunbeds, shade and food within reach. Conditions are typical and never guaranteed, there are no lifeguards on every beach, and the rocks at the edges reward water shoes, so keep young children close and let the calm bays, not the famous names, choose your day.
A base for the family day
A beach club or an organised cove makes a family day far easier in Ibiza, with sunbeds, shade, a place to leave your things and food without a long walk. The calm west coast bays such as Cala Bassa and the sheltered east coast resorts at Cala Llonga and Santa Eulalia have the most family friendly services, while some of the island's smarter clubs lean adult, glamorous and expensive rather than child focused. We never invent a venue, a minimum spend or an opening status, so anything we cannot confirm is marked to be confirmed. Browse the directory and send one enquiry to check your date.

Before you go
Which Ibiza beaches are best for families with young children?
Cala Bassa on the west coast is the standout, with clear, shallow, sheltered water, soft sand and full services. Cala Llonga and Santa Eulalia on the east coast are the most set up for families, with calm shallows and resort facilities, while the small bays at Portinatx on the north coast are gentle and quieter. All offer calm, shallow swimming.
Are there party beaches in Ibiza to avoid with kids?
Yes. Playa den Bossa is the island's main party strip, lined with clubs and bars that build through the day, so it is an adult outing rather than a family beach. Es Cavallet is beautiful but known as a lively, clothing optional beach. For a relaxed family day, head to the calmer west and east coast coves instead.
Is the water calm and shallow on Ibiza family beaches?
On the right beaches, yes. The sheltered coves at Cala Bassa, Cala Llonga, Cala Tarida and Santa Eulalia have calm, shallow, clear water with a gentle slope that suits paddling children. The clarity also makes them good for simple snorkelling. The island's water is famously clear, which adds to the appeal for families and children.
Do the family beaches in Ibiza have sunbeds and restaurants?
Yes. Cala Bassa, Cala Llonga, Cala Tarida and Santa Eulalia are well organised, with sunbeds, umbrellas and beach restaurants close to the sand, and the resort beaches have shops and services nearby. Prices vary and the smarter beach clubs can be expensive, which we mark as to be confirmed, but you will not be short of shade or food.
When should families arrive at the popular Ibiza beaches?
Arrive early in summer. The west coast coves such as Cala Bassa are beautiful but popular, and the car parks fill fast through July and August, so a morning start makes parking and a good sunbed far easier. A boat from Sant Antoni to the west coast bays is also a relaxed way to reach them and skip the parking entirely.
