Praia Brava is the stylish one. It sits at the northern tip of Santa Catarina Island, a curved kilometre and a half of soft pale sand pinned between two rocky points and framed by green hills, about forty minutes from the centre of Florianopolis. Unlike the packed resort strands of the bay, it is backed not by a busy town but by a small, upscale neighbourhood of condominiums, and that gives it a contained, chic feel that many of the island's beaches have lost.
