Liku Beach
Best for. Couples on a honeymoon who want the overwater bure fantasy on calm Fijian water, with no children on the sand and nothing left to arrange.
Best spot. A beach bure with a plunge pool keeps you in the water when the lagoon pulls back at low tide, while the overwater bures are at their dreamiest on a high morning tide.
Know this. This is one resort's private lagoon, not a public beach, and Fiji lagoons are tidal, so the glassy water at midday is not the water at dawn. Rates are to be confirmed.
Liku Beach is the kind of place couples cut out of magazines. It is the calm lagoon frontage of Likuliku Lagoon Resort on Malolo Island, deep in the Mamanucas, and the name says everything you need to know. Likuliku means calm waters, and on a high tide that is exactly what you get, a sheet of still, clear sea curving around a short crescent of soft white sand, with a row of overwater bures reaching out over the reef. Likuliku is widely credited as the first resort in Fiji to build authentic overwater rooms, and the lagoon sits inside a protected marine sanctuary, so the water is alive with fish a few fin kicks from your steps.
What makes it work for two is that everything else falls away. The resort is adults only, so there is no splashing at breakfast and no games on the sand, just the quiet rhythm of a couple with nowhere to be. You can drift between a plunge pool, a hammock and the lagoon, eat long lunches in the shade, and watch the light go gold across the water as the Mamanucas settle into evening. For a honeymoon or an anniversary, when the whole point is each other and nothing else, Liku Beach is one of the most complete romantic settings in Fiji.
The honest catch is the one the brochures leave out, and it is the tide. Like almost every Mamanuca lagoon, Likuliku goes shallow at low water, and the dreamy swim you pictured from the overwater deck can become a wade across the flats for a few hours each day. A beach bure with a plunge pool is the smart hedge, since it keeps you in water whatever the sea is doing. The other truth is access and price. This is not a public beach you can wander onto, it is one resort's private lagoon, adults only and firmly at the luxury end, with rates to be confirmed. If you want powder soft sand and pure seclusion without the resort scale, sail north to Honeymoon Beach or all the way to Yasawa Island. But if the overwater bure on calm water is the dream, Liku Beach delivers it as honestly as anywhere in the country.
Clubs on this beach
Liku Beach is the private lagoon of a single resort rather than a public beach lined with day clubs, so the experience here is the resort itself. For a true Mamanuca beach club you can book by the day, Fiji's floating and island clubs sit a short boat ride away and the directory points the way. Rates and any minimum spend move with the season, so ask the venue when you enquire.

The adults only retreat that owns this lagoon, known as the first resort in Fiji with authentic overwater bures and set inside a protected marine sanctuary. The romantic choice for a honeymoon, with beach bures, plunge pools and quiet dining on the sand. Stays, day access terms and rates are to be confirmed.
Neighbouring Malolo resorts
Malolo Island carries a few other resorts beyond Likuliku, some of which run lunch or day passes for visitors arriving by boat. We never invent a venue or a price, so specific day access and any minimum spend are to be confirmed with each property.
The Mamanuca day clubs
For a beach club you can book by the day rather than a room you check into, Fiji's options float offshore in the Mamanucas, reached from Port Denarau. The directory covers the island and pontoon clubs and how to reserve a daybed, with anything unverified marked to be confirmed.
Malolo Island, Mamanucas
Liku Beach sits on Malolo Island in the Mamanuca group, west of the mainland. Most couples reach Likuliku by a speedboat transfer of around forty five minutes from Port Denarau near Nadi, or by a short helicopter flight of about ten minutes for those who want to skip the water. Both are arranged through the resort once your stay is booked.
Pack reef safe sun cover, a hat and not much else, since the resort is all about slowing down. Plan your swims around the higher tides, when the lagoon is deepest and calmest, and remember the flats turn shallow at low water. Conditions are typical rather than guaranteed and there is no promise of lifeguard cover, so read the day and stay near the shore.

Common questions about Liku Beach
Is Liku Beach good for couples?
Yes, it is one of the most romantic stretches of sand in Fiji. Liku Beach fronts Likuliku Lagoon Resort on Malolo Island, an adults only retreat whose name means calm waters, and the soft sand, the still lagoon and the famous overwater bures are built for two. The honest caveat is that this is a single resort lagoon rather than a public beach, so the romance comes at a resort price that is to be confirmed.
Can you swim at Liku Beach at low tide?
Sometimes, and this is the thing the photos never tell you. Like most Mamanuca lagoons, the water at Likuliku pulls back at low tide and the swimming turns to a shallow wade across the flats. At a high morning tide it is calm, clear and lovely. Conditions are typical rather than guaranteed and there is no promise of lifeguard cover, so check the tide chart and treat the sea as unsupervised.
Can you visit Liku Beach for the day?
Not as a casual day visitor. Liku Beach is the private lagoon frontage of Likuliku Lagoon Resort, which is adults only and set up for staying guests rather than walk in trippers. If you want a Mamanuca day on the sand without booking a room, the floating and island day clubs reached from Port Denarau are the better route, and our Fiji clubs directory points the way.
Does Likuliku have overwater bures?
Yes. Likuliku is widely described as the first resort in Fiji to build authentic overwater bures, and a handful of them sit out above the reef while the rest are beach bures, several with private plunge pools. The overwater rooms are limited in number and book out far ahead, so reserve early if that is the dream. Room counts and rates are set by the resort and are to be confirmed.
When is the best time to visit Liku Beach?
The Fiji dry season from May to October brings the clearest lagoon, the lowest humidity and the steadiest sunsets, which is the window most couples want. Visit on a higher tide for the calmest swimming and aim for the soft light of early morning or late afternoon, when the lagoon turns glassy and the day quietens down.
