The verdict

Best for. Couples and families who want the most scenic swim on this coast, a sheltered cove of clear water wrapped in pine clad hills away from the resort strip.

Best spot. The right side of the cove towards the rocks, where the water is clearest for snorkeling and the headland gives a little natural shade in the afternoon.

Know this. Konnos is gorgeous but the access road is steep and parking is tight, so it fills early and boat trips arrive midday. Come in the morning for the calm.

The honest read

Konnos Bay is the beach that reminds you the southeast coast of Cyprus has more than resort sand. Set between Protaras and Cape Greco inside a national forest park, it is a sheltered cove of soft sand and remarkably clear water, wrapped on three sides by pine clad hills with not a hotel in sight. After the busy bustle of Fig Tree Bay, the green setting and the calm, glassy water feel like a different island.

The swimming and snorkeling are the draw. The cove faces into shelter, so the water stays calm and clear even when the open coast is breezy, and the rockier edges towards the headlands reward a mask and snorkel. A snack bar, sunbed hire and seasonal watersports cover the essentials, and the pines come right down towards the sand, which gives the whole place a softer, wilder feel than the manicured beaches up the road.

The honest read is access. Konnos sits below a steep road and the car park is small, so it fills early on summer days and the descent is not ideal for anyone with mobility difficulties. By midday in season the boat trips from Protaras and Ayia Napa pull in and the quiet cove gets a sudden burst of company. The reward is real, but it goes to those who arrive early or stay late rather than turning up at noon in August.

Who should skip it. If you need easy flat access, a large car park and a long beach, the resort sand at Fig Tree Bay is the simpler choice. But for the prettiest, clearest swim on this coast in a setting of pine and rock rather than concrete, Konnos Bay is worth the steep road and the early alarm.

The club layer

A wild cove, not a club

Konnos is a public cove inside a national forest park, with sunbed hire, a snack bar and seasonal watersports rather than a beach club. For a daybed and cabana scene, compare the options in the Cyprus beach clubs guide. Keep Konnos for the clear water and the pine backed setting.

Getting there and essentials

Cape Greco, southeast coast

Konnos Bay lies between Protaras and Cape Greco on the southeast coast, around fifty minutes by car from Larnaca airport, reached by a steep road that drops down into the national forest park.

The small car park at the top of the cove fills early in high season, and the walk down is steep, so an early arrival or a taxi makes the day easier. Boat trips from Protaras and Ayia Napa also call at the bay.

Sunbed hire, a snack bar and seasonal watersports cover the basics, but bring water and sun cover, and good footwear for the steep access path. Larger meals are back in Protaras a short drive away.

Common questions about Konnos

Is Konnos Bay worth visiting?

Yes, if you want the most scenic swim on this coast. It is a sheltered cove of clear calm water inside a pine clad national forest park, far prettier than the resort beaches, though the steep access and small car park mean an early start pays off.

Is there parking at Konnos Bay?

There is a small car park at the top of the cove reached by a steep road, and it fills early in high summer. Arrive in the morning, use a taxi, or be ready to walk down.

Is Konnos Bay good for snorkeling?

Yes. The water is calm and exceptionally clear, and the rockier edges towards the headlands hold fish and interesting ground, which makes it one of the better snorkeling spots on the southeast coast in typical conditions.

Is Konnos Bay good for families?

The sheltered, calm and shallow water suits children well, but the steep walk down and the limited parking make it harder work than a flat resort beach. There is no guaranteed lifeguard, so supervise children closely.

How is Konnos different from Fig Tree Bay?

Fig Tree Bay is a polished, busy resort beach with easy access, while Konnos is a smaller, wilder cove in a forest park with clearer water and a steep approach. Choose Konnos for scenery and snorkeling, Fig Tree Bay for convenience.
