Poniente is the half of Benidorm that the day trippers skip, and that is exactly why it works. Running west from the old town for around three kilometres, it carries the same free golden sand and the same calm, shallow water as Levante, but with a more local, more relaxed crowd and far fewer people trying to sell you a timeshare or a boat trip. The wave shaped modern promenade that lines it is genuinely good public design, and it gives the whole beach a calmer, more open feel.
For value this is the smarter side of the resort. The bars and restaurants directly on the front charge front prices everywhere in Benidorm, but step one street back from Poniente and you are quickly into ordinary Spanish menus del dia and neighbourhood cafes where a proper lunch costs a fraction of a seafront set meal. The beach itself stays free all day, so the cheapest plan is the simplest one: your own towel, shade carried from the supermarket, and water in the bag rather than bought on the sand.
It suits families, couples and long stay visitors who want the warmth and the facilities of Benidorm without the full volume of the Levante strip. The honest caveat is that this is still a big, busy resort beach backed by high rise hotels, so anyone dreaming of an empty cove should head north to Altea or Javea instead. But as a free, easy, well run town beach with the better value half of the resort behind it, Poniente quietly outperforms its louder neighbour.
Poniente runs on relaxed beach bars and balnearios rather than glossy clubs. Names and terms change through the year, so check the current options in our Costa Blanca beach clubs directory.
The promenade carries seasonal beach bars and balnearios with drinks, snacks and sunbed hire at relaxed prices, quieter than the Levante side. Operators, opening status and terms change through the year and are to be confirmed before you visit.
For a smarter beach club day, the coves and resorts north toward Altea, Moraira and Javea hold the better addresses. Operators and minimum spend vary by season and are to be confirmed.
Poniente runs west from the old town and is an easy walk from much of Benidorm. The cheapest way in from elsewhere on the coast is the TRAM light rail, which links the resort with Alicante and Denia and avoids the cost of parking near the front in high season.
If you drive, use a paid car park back from the seafront rather than hunting a meter space. Bring sun cream, water and your own parasol from a supermarket, then decide between a free patch of sand and a hired sunbed. Eat a street back from the front and the day stays cheap.

For a calm, relaxed day Poniente usually wins. It is the more local, less hectic side of Benidorm, with the same free golden sand and gentle water but fewer touts and cheaper food just behind the front. Levante is the choice if you want the nightlife on your doorstep.
Yes. The beach is public and free to use. You only pay for a hired sunbed and parasol, a pedalo or food and drink. Bring your own towel and shade and a full day costs nothing.
Yes. The water is typically calm and shallow, the wide sand gives children room to play, and there are seasonal lifeguards, showers and accessible ramps. It is quieter than Levante, which most families prefer. Conditions are typical rather than guaranteed.
May, June, September and October bring warm, calm water, lower room rates and an uncrowded beach. Benidorm also draws long stay visitors in winter for its mild sun, when the front is at its quietest and cheapest.
Poniente runs west from the old town and is an easy walk from most of Benidorm. The TRAM light rail and local buses serve the area and cost far less than driving and parking near the seafront in summer.
