The verdict

Best for. Couples and swimmers who want jewel like water and do not mind a short walk and a small beach.

Best spot. The sheltered left side as you face the sea, where the shallows stay clear and calm.

Know this. It is small and well loved, so it feels crowded in August despite the effort to reach it.

The honest read

Petit Sperone sits near the very southern tip of Corsica, by the Sperone peninsula beyond Bonifacio, where the island shelves into water so clear it could pass for the tropics. It is a small cove, intimate and sheltered, the kind of place that rewards people who are willing to walk a short distance for something special rather than park beside the sand. The setting, close to the celebrated Sperone golf course and its pine clad headland, gives the whole area a quiet, exclusive feel.

What makes the cove memorable is the water. Sheltered from much of the swell, the shallows hold a clear turquoise that invites slow swimming and snorkelling along the edges. Because the beach is small, it has an enclosed, private mood on a quiet day, as though you have found a corner that the crowds have not.

The honest qualifier is August. Petit Sperone is no secret, and its small size means it fills quickly in the peak weeks, when the calm cove can feel busy. Come in June or September, or early in the day, and you get the jewel without the crush. This is a beach to savour slowly, not a place to spread out for a boisterous family afternoon.

Clubs on this beach

Petit Sperone is a natural cove rather than a club beach, and there is no daybed terrace on the sand. The wider Sperone area is upmarket and there may be refreshment options within reach, but these change and are best confirmed on the day. For full beach clubs, see the Corsica directory.

Bonifacio, Corsica

Petit Sperone lies at the southern tip of Corsica, beyond Bonifacio near the Sperone golf estate. From Bonifacio it is a short drive followed by a walk to the cove, with parking in the area rather than on the sand. Allow time for the final stretch on foot.

There is no direct public transport to the cove, so a car plus a short walk is the realistic plan. The path is the price of the cove staying as quiet and clear as it does.

Common questions about Petit Sperone

How do you get to Petit Sperone Beach?

You drive toward the Sperone peninsula beyond Bonifacio, park in the area, and walk the final stretch to the cove. The short walk is part of why the beach keeps its sheltered, private feel.

Is Petit Sperone better than Grand Sperone?

They suit different moods. Petit Sperone is smaller and more sheltered and intimate, while Grand Sperone next door is larger and more open. Many visitors happily see both in one day.

Does Petit Sperone get crowded?

Yes, in August, because it is small and well loved. For a calmer visit come in June or September, or arrive early before the day trippers settle in.

Is there a beach club at Petit Sperone?

No. It is a natural cove with little on the sand itself, though the wider Sperone area is upmarket. For organised beach clubs you would look at the Corsica beach clubs guide.

Is Petit Sperone good for snorkelling?

The sheltered, clear shallows and rocky edges make for pleasant, gentle snorkelling on a calm day. There is no lifeguard, so keep within your comfort and watch conditions.
